558 Aircrew training on 655

[Jogger321]

Do you know you 655 lot clearly operate in a clandestine and secretive fashion. I found out this out today whilst I was at the Saturday market watching 655 strut her stuff whilst helping out with crew training.

I overheard a chap telling everyone who was asking what is it?. Its a Vulcan. It was the Raf's first Stealth Bomber (from the 80's). This one did the Falklands

It's based here at Wellesbourne. It's going to take off as soon as the mist clears.

Sidewinder missiles below the wings

It flies all the air shows and is operated by the RAF.

..Well as they say you learn something new everyday

[Mayfly]

Thanks for today guys & gals

Just wish the aircrew would stop phaffing and get on with it!!! 'twas a bit chilly

Was this training for the first flight / last ever flight of 2011? (delete as applicable)

HA! HA! HA!

Thank You Jogger!

I'm sure some of those boys will be quite startled to find
out they're still in the RAF!

Not to mention puzzled why they can't remember all that

FLYING!!!!!

Indeed Minty it was.558 is due to fly within the next week or so.
The crew as Mayfly has said did take a bit of time to settle in on the first start and did use a load of fuel but thats training for you.655 performed very well with only couple of minor snags which did not stop the days proceedings.

Nice to know 655 is her usual self - thanks CC

[Snapper]

Just starting to wade through the photos from Saturdays cold, but very enjoyable, day at Wellesbourne with the Flight Crew from XH558.

I thought I should share this with the world ASAP!

Should have gone to Specsavers Nick!!!

You should see the comment I left on the photographers web page............
Hopefully he will approve it for appearance.

Anyway I was being 'Polite' (Which I know is rare!!)

[Crew chief]

Clive's photo of the crew is ample proof it was a cold day, right Bill.

Great pic (I somehow feel adequate again)

[Snapper]

Thanks for the comments..... Its always good to receive some feedback. I don't do this for the money I can tell you.... coz there aint any.

I've now uploaded the best of the rest.... Hope you enjoy taking a look.

For the best view, if you've got a few mins to spare, can I recommend the "SLIDEVIEW" option. You get a maximised image.

I'm also still learing the functionality of this zenfolio website so bear with... Grrrrrr

My thanks to all the XM655 support crew who have worked miracles this winter in far from ideal conditions to maintain the aircraft in this remarkeable condition. At least one of the XH558 flight crew was most impressed and he commented as such to me during a chat

[RLN]

Some great photos, Snapper. It is worth doing the slideshow

[Dan4th]

All Wonderful!

Esp. Pammy in the Jetwash!

[RLN]

Never seen her move so fast.

[Sooty655]

I've never seen 655 move so fast on a nominally slow manoeuvre either. These upstart display jockeys don't have the finesse of a master like DT.

[Mayfly]

Sooty ONLY JUST stayed on his feet and ask Snapper about his bag!!!

[Dan4th]

Sooty Insulted Snapper's WIFE???????????

[Avs]

We both thoroughly enjoyed the day. When the engines fired up with the thunderous roar (even with ear defenders on) and feeling the engine kick in through your body and the ground was absolutely awesome.
Great photo opportunity

[Kermit]

Brilliant day ! Particularly enjoyed being caught by the jetwash, a few more seconds and I would have been airborne ! Nice and warm mind you, so everything has a silver lining. 655 behaved beautifully, and as Clive said, 558 crew were impressed by her good condition, so pat on the back to all engineers and little helpers.
At the risk of talking myself into a job, that wax 558 uses to shine up the bodywork would add the finishing touch to an already beautiful aircraft

[Dan4th]

Kermit:::::::::::

Did I just hear you Volunteering????????????

I'm sure you would have some Willing Helpers, though.....
