I hope that the CONdems are not thinking of using the RAF to enforce any possible no fly zones over Libya as it may leave us short for other no fly zones over any other African dictators country if they decide to throw a wobbly too........ [-x

The governments dismantling of our Armed Forces continues ruthlessly.

I've said for the last few years we won't have an airforce in 20 years time it will be part of the Fleet Air Arm.

Mayfly is right, she just forgot to add that the Fleet Air Arm will be a branch of the Boy Scouts.

Sorry, boy scouts have been sold off to foreign investors.

I think the Biscester branch of the W.I. can take on the role though

All I can tell you is this breaks my heart.

What good is the world without a Real RAF?

Who will lead?

Who will fly our sox off?

Who will show us the way?

Started out to say something meaningful, but
I just don't have the words to tell what I'm feeling
right now.

USA is Next, I'm afraid..........

Whilst this is all very emotive now as it's hitting services personnel directly, it's the result of poor management and procurement failings going back decades. MoD procurement has been living way beyond its means for many years and it had to come to a stop eventually. Successive governments have failed to address the frankly idiotic cost overruns on projects and quite rightly certain projects are being culled: the overall state of the public finances has only forced action that should have been taken a long time ago.

Worth having a read of Chapter 14 of the Haddon-Cave Nimrod report: it's a damning insight into defence procurement and the culture of overspend.

Thanks for that Gully not read it all yet but I have never seen a truer statement IMHO than....

“The defence ministry’s capacity to waste money is legendary. Procurement is a dismal
story of delays and extortion. The defence contractors, assured their prosperity is vital to
national security, have a captive customer and no incentive to cut costs.”
