£350,000 by the end of May.

I'll be honest, it's not as bad as I was expecting!

Good luck to all involved!

It's not a surprise at all - they said last October that appeal would only get them through the winter and servicing.

The sooner she's airborne again to show she is serviceable the better.

Yep, once the flying starts again, interest will pick up. I don't doubt they'll do it this time round. Not as much as in the past and more time to do it.

Could things be changing for the better???????

I personally think they had no CHOICE
but to change things for the better......

The only thing I would question is someones definition of little notice

One significant reason is that the VAT regulations applying to large non-commercial aircraft like the Vulcan were changed with very little warning at the beginning of January. In practice, this means the sudden imposition of 20% VAT on all the parts and services for the maintenance of XH558, which up until then were zero-rated. Added to this, our fuel budget is now nearly double that originally planned.

This is an EU directive and I know there were reminders about it coming in force last October..

Due to the non-profit nature of the Vulcan
effort, you might suppose that it would be
a tax-exempt organization.......

Since many believe that seeing/hearing 558
is akin to a religeous experience, perhaps the
powers that be might want to consider
re-organizing as a Church?

There are some rules that allow VAT free charitable organisations, I was reading about it this morning - whether 558 would fall under that umbrella or not I couldn't say. But even so I would expect they need to pay it before any exemptions could be put in place and they could claim it back....

At worst they could VAT register and claim VAT back on expenses.

Surley no government minister would ever condone such a thing. They will allow claiming expenses as a whole next.

At the end of the day we come back to basics - if enough wish to see her fly they will donate if not they won't. I just hope in this age of cut backs and increased living expenses her supporters are wise enough not to get themslves into finacial trouble by supporting what at the end of the day is only an aircraft!

Mid Feb to announce, so what are they going to pull out of the hat this time?
Surely they should have been concentrating on fund raising earlier than this?
I would have thought that they would have continued even after they had raised the last amount needed, like any business they knew, (we all did) that they would need at least X plus Y to get her back in the air for the display season.
Still the only real benefit is that they didn't wait until April to tell us. (They have given us the extra month).

But how about they actually inform us of the projections of funds required to keep her in the air for this year and into next (if there is a next), NOW.

Then at least others that raise funds for her will have a target to assist with rather than every couple of months or so the noose gets put around the fund-raiser necks with we need £400,000 by next week or else (Yes I know the figure is extreme) but with the same faces running the ship I don't believe that a miracle will happen and we will be informed sooner than we ever have been before.

I will just await the next headline of...

Unless £X,000's is raised by xxx then all will be made redundant.

I will not hold my breath.

Sorry but after the last few years and the treatment given to most this is how I feel.

Question.
Where did you get this info from, (I have read the link) because I can not find it on the TVOC website. The one place that most people would look. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

In my mind, fundraising should be a continual thing, 24hrs a day 365 days a year, there should be no need for these quotes saying that we need x ammount by y date or the guys will be getting the heave ho... X(

This has happened every year since 558 graced the skies again, and I can imagine that a lot of the club members who do what they can ,when they can are getting fed up with it, I know I am........ :((

Yes I know the answer is to get a major sponsor on board which would help greatly.

It would be nice for the trust to periodically inform us as to how finding this sponsor is going, instead the treat us like mushrooms and keep us in the dark.

If it was not for the dedication that the club members and the public give and show, then 558 would not be where she is today, this is something that the trust seems to forget

Hi MF
The request of fundraising of £350,000 is in the link by the original poster Gaz.

Extract from the link page.
Help XH558 take-off in March

When we add these extra costs to her ongoing operational expenses, we need to raise an additional £350,000 by the end of May to ensure that XH558 arrives on the air show circuit with stable finances. This amount is rather smaller than in previous campaigns and we have longer to raise it – a sign of the growing strength of the Trust – but that doesn’t mean that we can fly XH558 without your support. Your contribution is vital.

However, as most of the public who know of the lady will check on the TVOC or Vulcan to the sky website, I have noticed a distinct lack of the £350,000 requirement.
I have checked the news pages etc, but don't seem to be able to find it.

Perhaps someone should inform the Vulcan powers that be that they should at least put the information on their pages before it appearing anywhere else.

No you are right I don't think has been any other mention of it, other than the email that was sent on Friday..

I would assume of course that there would be something appearing very soon on the website!

No don't think so Gaz.

But i have re-read the announcement and have to look at a few bits a bit deeper.

But I have to tell you that due to factors beyond our control, we see that we risk running out of money ahead of the air shows themselves.

So if they have already noticed them surely they can now become within their control?

In practice, this means the sudden imposition of 20% VAT on all the parts and services for the maintenance of XH558, which up until then were zero-rated.

What happened to their own Maintenance team who are employed by TVOC that was?
Surely they are not VAT registered?
Or are they all private contractors?

If we raise an additional £50,000, not only will we extend the audience to all Key Stage age groups, we will also be able to offer the package nationally in an award winning format - a core educational objective.

So it's really £400,000 they want.
