I've heard 2 stories on this the first the guy in the green shirt lost his leg the second he was killed - not sure what the truth is - but the other who jumped was very lucky!

I feel a bit sick now knowing that someone might have been killed. Terrible accident.

What happened to the crew? That ejection didn't look very clean. :(

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

I was gonna ask it but didn't really want to know the answer, but seeing as you mentioned it, it looked to me like the ejectee in shot hit the canopy on his way out?

This is all I can find at the moment:

On 11 September while the ship was operating off the coast of Virginia, an arresting wire parted while an F/A-18 was landing. As the wire parted, it snapped back violently across the deck, injuring eleven crewmen, two critically (the wire nearly hit an additional crew member but he jumped above the wire in time). The sailors, who were part of the ship's company, VAW-120 and VFA-106 had to be medically evacuated from the ship but all survived the mishap. The aircraft was lost over the side but the pilot was able to eject safely. Footage of the mishap was later used in a National Geographic special about the ship that was being filmed at the time.

Upon watching it closely it looks as if the first person landed face first, although it looks like he survived as afterwards he moves. But it's still enough to put me off wanting to be on deck when an aircraft traps.
Fly fast jets and/or C130s over my house please, I'm bored!
