When did we decide to buy the C17? I thought they were leased until the A400m came into service.

I think they're great, the sheer size of them impresses me!

Edit to add: here's a very short clip I took at RAF Halton last year at their open day... the flypast was the Queen's Birthday Flypast, on its way back... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VECNz1a02X4

We brought the initial 4 last year and purchased a further 2 with more possibly on the way.

Wedgy
Due a weird temporary fault with my camera it now seems unable to take any more C17 photos. Not sure why or if it is only a temporary thing. :p

Whoa there D4th, [-x if you ever stand by a Lancaster you will see it is far from ugly old chap, it actually has rugged good looks similar to a Packard! :D Not beautiful, rather competently attractive and functional shaped, like our English Rose, rounded, trim and fit for purpose. :ymblushing: :ymblushing:
Not at all like that big, ugly flying truck the C17, which although fit for purpose, is about as attractive to the eye as those human blimps who main line on Pizza and steroid Burgers, wobbling about the place, puffing and blowing with the effort of actual parambulation. Yeuk ! :p :ymdevil:

AH! But Lancs are Bee-Yoo-Tee-Full TOO!

Dambusters Lancs were Packard-Powered as well!

Gotta love 'em!

Sorry you don't like the C-17s, but the RAF seems
to be pretty happy with them!

Just cuz SM's NOSE is out of joint doesn't mean
they don't WORK well! Plus, instruction manual
translation is relatively easy!

I'm goin' wit' the Wedgemeister on this one, folks.....

OK ya got me I should of known you'd play the Packard Merlin card :D
I am sure the C17 is a great truck, a wonderful heavy lift truck, but a truck it is nontheless. Don't dislike 'em, just can't understand why they have to be soooooooo ugly

Pity the name sounds like a failed London Boy Band! :)) :))
