Not mean mate....honest :D

You used to love BD open day?
If it were at all possible to pass to you the thrill of open day's/air displays from the era of Ian's photo's you would literally be blown away mate.
I for one would share that with you in an instant if it were possible because nothing of it's kind will EVER be witnessed again :((

Olicat. Do you mean the 74Sqn F4J(UK)s?

http://www.f-4.nl/f4_32.html

These should have been European Grey but the Mexican contractor painted them a lovely turquoise blue instead!! Or so the story goes.

BTW Oli you can still see a Buccaneer taxy at Bruntingthorpe.

Now marked as a Royal Navy Buccaneer, although it is an ex-RAF Lossiemouth S2B.

Sorry it's such a SMALL image, this took place at RAF St. Athan on the occaision of a return of the aircraft to the Squadron after a major servicing and the retirement of the pilot who was collecting it!

Image

Needless to say he received a severe bollocking which he laughed off as he was leaving the service!

XPL your photo reminds me of a Finningley display in the early 80s when the commentator announced that the Phantom was running in for the start of his display. Only he didn't say from which direction he would be coming.

It actually flew between the hangars behind us and over our heads at about the same height as your photo.

My nephew refused to go to any more airshows after that. Mind you he did leap about 3 foot in the air.

Eeh them wer't days.
