It's the two sides of the coin Mick - we all know how hard everyone works on behalf of 558, but that cuts no ice with those who see the appeals as begging...

Some really need to take a step back & see it from the point of view of those who aren't avid supports but do give donations..

Thanks Pam, that also links to the plans for the future news that quotes the 2013/14 flying life I quoted earlier. If all those things are put in place and managed properly, it looks good for the future to avoid these last minute appeals.

Unfortunately with comments like those posted before they really need to learn how to win friends and influence people if they want more people to come/stay on board, because their donator base could get cheesed off and leave, especially if there are more communication lapses, but I suppose with the increase in supporters that has got the target amount achieved again, that it is something they probably are not unduly concerned about.

Thanks Pam. Nearly posted the 'thank you' link, until I re-read your post and thought I'd better not.

Think this line sentence says it all actually Pam.
As in who the fund raising targets are.

In another initiative, we aim to bring those who have loyally supported XH558 in the past into more regular contact with the Trust and its plans for XH558, encouraging small but regular contributions.

I picked that up too PA but in fairness its the easy target so the obvious choice. I donate every month to Cancer Research I'm always getting phone calls claiming to be an update that always end up with 'can you see your way clear to increasing your donation'!!! - TBH it got so bad last week I told them to take me off their phone list!!

I see on the trust forum there have been comments about detractors and gererally telling them to go forth and multiply etc etc - but again that is not the way to win heart and minds all it does is drive borderline supporters away....and they can't afford to do that.

I have just logged on for the first time in ages to see what news was inside for Club Members and noticed the same thing Pam, it would appear that Iconic is now top of their s***t list and coupled with the public comments I previously published I really think they believe that they can do and say what they like as historically it has made no difference to the project funding treating people the way they have.

So I suppose we should just slink away until the next crisis as instructed X( , on second thoughts no, people with that approach in life are not worth the effort so lets Carry on Regardless it is beginning to be funny now :ymdevil:

Mick,

What I actually said was "Go forth and spread the word" not "go forth and multiply"

It might have been nice if when you quoted Denis you had given him a name check, you could also have pointed out he has now retired from the trust and as such that is his own opinion and not that of the trust.

Thank you all very much for your support.

Carry on.

Thanks SS3, you are correct maybe I should have posted the originator of the quote I quoted, but cross forum I thought it was forum etiquette not to do that in some circumstances as it could end up as too personal, but take your point for the future. May I respectfully suggest that you also quote correctly as it was mayfly who posted Landymans comment reference the 'go forth & multiply comment' ;) .

Other than that hope all is well with you

regards Mick

Indeed my comment above was NOT taken from SS comments at all. In fact I thought his response on VTST forum was very concise and informative and one I shall use if the occasion arises.

Maybe he should come with a 'subtitle' of the above - its very inflammatory and not everyone knows about his Kamikaze tongue :))
Glad to see your name here Sam, if only fleetingly. Hope you + tash are well :)

Wcg did have a point on that thread, promise to deliver and deliver what you promise - especially with something this important. "News coming Monday" could have easily been made a little more ambiguous to allow for slippage ;)

*edit* As for the other comments - especially the "s**tlist" .... I'm surprised Wcg doesn't like us - I find myself agreeing with a lot of his arguments on the other forum :D

Are THEY really after nothing but agreement, dissent is healthy and should cause inward glances that lead to improvement!

As has been said above, the management have got away with it for so long now, it must have become second nature!!!!

Well done to who ever put together the latest email.. This maybe my opinion only but I actually felt there was some substance to it and I like the idea of a vulcan wish list for Christmas prezzies

there isn't one it's my own private email!! =))

But as it's you!!

The response to our winter appeal has been quite remarkable.

"In little more than a month, we went from being threatened with closure to having sufficient funds to maintain her through the winter,” says a relieved Dr Robert Pleming, chief executive of the Trust.

The success of the appeal will allow the Trust to focus on developing commercial revenue streams that will reduce its dependence on quarterly campaigns. At a planning meeting on Monday (November 1st) it was decided to step-up the already-successful Vulcan merchandising activities and to introduce new, high value items including unrepeatable flown components for collectors. There will also be new ways that supporters can see and experience the aircraft and meet the aircrew and other ‘Vulcan celebrities’.

“We will always need the support of the aircraft’s incredibly committed followers, but now we can start to offer them more in return,” explained commercial director Michael Trotter. “There are only a few years of flying left before ‘safe life’ considerations ground her permanently.

In that time, we would like every one of our supporters to be able to see the aircraft at her unforgettable displays, get close to her on the ground and to have an opportunity to come and meet the people who maintain and fly her.”

“I would like to personally thank everyone who donated their time and money to help her survive,” concludes Robert Pleming, who hopes to see the aircraft fly for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, exactly 60 years after the prototype first flew.

Within the next few weeks, we will be writing to thank all those who responded to our previous mail-out and will also include details on new ways they can become involved in supporting the project longer term. We will also include a mail order catalogue, making contact with those who do not regularly use the internet for shopping, or indeed this email news system for keeping in touch with our activities.

These emails are very cost efficient for us and enable us to bring you news very quickly. Please do continue to pass these to your family, friends and work colleagues if they are interested in hearing of our future and ask them to sign up to receive their own copy by registering here »

Our story is far larger than the achievement of an immediate cash call and we hope more people will wish to become actively involved, taking advantage of the educational and scientific elements we can build for future generations - their children – and have the satisfaction of knowing each and every one of XH558’s supporters played an important role. Something we can all be proud off in 5, 10 or more years time!

Hence, we do need to keep up that steady stream of income to be in front of our funding needs, so if you are able to make a small “one-off” donation now, please do visit our donation page.

Aircraft News

XH558 is now safely stored in her hangar at RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire.

There will be some small maintenance tasks to undertake this month, but already our Engineering Team have put in official request with Marshall Aerospace to quote on the Winter service schedule.

Ant-dets and engine runs will be carried out as required, so we are making enquiries to see if we can gain limited public access to these for photographic and fundraising opportunities. However, as RAF Lyneham is still an active base, we will need to bring you updates on these developments just as soon as possible. Certainly, it is our intention to re-start the regular and very popular Hangar Tours every Sunday, so details on these will be published soon to enable advanced bookings.
