:ymapplause: Thank goodness for that.

I am, like everyone is, pleased for everyone involved.
Far more so for those who depend on this for a livelyhood as well as for the love they put into it.
You know who you are :ymapplause:

Fully agree MF and as said before the engineers and the other hard workers like the committee/volunteers in the club/VV etc are also are saved from the axe of project ending constantly, as it must be a roller coaster of emotions for them, especially as it happens so often, but hopefully not again until 558 can no longer physically fly for engineering reasons rather than financial, which should a few years yet.

Really pleased for all who work for vtts or whatever it's called these days (sorry, get confussed). Let's hope the plans and promises come to fruition this time. Especially pleased for the engineers who really do the business for all 558's supporters, even if they only post on here when they have a hissy fit.. How many times do they need to be told that they are regarded as demi-gods, and we do feel for them every time they are threatened with redundancy. You have thrilled us for the last few years - continue to do so. :-BD

Great news. Really pleased for all the guys who work on 558 - they don't deserve to be badly treated the way they have been every time the funds run low.

Sadly, I can't see the "promises" leading to any real change, because I don't think there is a viable alternative. No major sponsor has come forward, at least not publically, and the core support is too few to provide sufficient income without these regular last-ditch "pay or we close" appeals.

It would be interesting to see if someone like Gerry Robinson could propose an organisational model to run the operation more cheaply, but I think the bottom line is that things will stay the same simply because there isn't an alternative.

They won't prove you wrong mate. It's the charity thing. They are all the same, they can only raise funds by passing the begging bowl round.

There are so many out there all after every pound, it's hard to choose who to give your quid to.

Each to their own.

It is ironic though, every time 558 needs a financial injection, some bloody natural disaster occurs to thwart the efforts of the fund raisers.

PLEASE NOTE: I am not discriminating against all those poor unfortunates who have recently been covered in volcanic ash or been washed away by the recent tsunami........

The hat will be continued to be passed round (IMHO) until the flying ceases................

Agree, but none of the other ones leave it until the last minute and put people on notice every time, they fund raise throughout the whole year with annual fund raising pushes to keep them in the forefront of peoples mind and for those additional requirements/special occasions like remembrances/anniversaries of some moment in history.

That's, kind of, what I was getting at.

It'll be March 27th and we'll hear "We need a billion quid by the end of the month or all these poor folk will lose their jobs"

Forgive me if I am incorrect but...

Wasn't the initial amount required £400,000?
broken down into..

We need (sorry).

We must have £300,000 by the end of October or...

The Engineers WILL BE MADE REDUNDANT..

So now they have the £300,000...

Will they just sit on their ar**'s until the next anouncement of...

We must have £100,000 by tomorrow or...

The Engineers WILL BE MADE REDUNDANT...

Or are they going to continue the high =)) profile of fund raising?

Also have they actually informed ~x( the full media so that not only the people who look at the website or this forum, but have donated will get the information.

All I have seen so far in the paper and on local news is that they need X by the end of October.

I also nipped down to Twycross to check with them as to whether a Leopard can really change it's spots?
They informed me that this was a very old wives tale.

Another forum I am a member of (national preservation), there is a topic on there about XH558 which I have posted to. One of the questions that has just been raised is about the wages, and the fact that £750,000 pounds of donations is spent on wages every year and that is over 1/3rd of the total running costs. I hope this is wrong, and I can post a reply to that particular question from a reply on this topic on here.

Minty if you look on the Charities Commission Report is you will see there is evidence that wages bill doubled between 2008-2009 [CCR page 21 refers], from £329,233 to £642,680 but the total number of employees went down by 7 from 23 see bottom of same page.

http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/ScannedAccounts/Ends48/0001101948_ac_20091031_e_c.pdf

This very subject has been the point of much discussion on other fora and not all of it pleasant as you can imagine....as one who can't interpret accounts, I can't pass comment but have thought of asking the management for clarification.

I agree Pam. I have looked at the accounts, but like you, cannot work out what it means. Hope someone can let us know in terms that we can understand, what the wages part of the accounts mean.

Oh how I despair at the current crop of posts looking at the minutiae of funding 558.
We should all rejoice that once again she has been saved from the precipice and we will have the joy of seeing her in the air again.

Which one?

Could it be something to do with the new seat being fitted in the Bomb Bay? Especially for the overpaid at VTTS.

I think it is to do with Taff's Tales (Lectures) ;)
