“By Thursday evening, we need to be sure that we will have £300,000 by the end of the week. If there is any doubt, she will follow Concorde into permanent retirement or be sold to a collector almost certainly abroad,” warns trust CEO Dr Robert Pleming.

So just over 48,000 needed by tomorrow night to save the day, sorry by the end of the week, no sorry its back to:

I hope that this news will show all those who have so far hesitated to donate that our £400,000 target is indeed attainable, and give them the confidence to make up the shortfall in the remaining few days".

Just to let you know they have won!

There is a lot I don't like about the current VTTS Trust setup

However having held off the last few weeks I have sent them a donation tonight

Why?

Because the damn thing provides me with such enormous pleasure each time I see it fly!

When I read your first line I thought you meant sufficient funds had been donated to cover all of the costs, not just that you had given in and sent a donation! :))

My sentiments entirely. That's why I coughed up as well.

I love to see the Vulcan and it's a shame that we seem to hit a crisis point each year with funding. Here's hoping that this can be avoided in the future.

The crisis point is something that was known about IMO at the beginning of the season.
It is IMO very bad management to announce only a month before the critical deadline that they have to raise so much or else...
Every year has been the same since the restoration began in earnest.
We were promised last year that this would not be the case this year.
No doubt there will be the same promise (should they manage to beat the deadline and actually raise the necessary funds) this year.
But there is still the same problem next year and no doubt IMO the scenerio will be exactly the same.

Yet, in these difficult times is there no director/executive positions that could be done away with to lower the costs for next year?

And to end on...

PA you are correct in all you said re last minute appeals, but also like all the previous ones it looks like the news from the trustees meeting will be erring on the side that all is well for the appeal and they have reached sufficient funding to go ahead with the winter maintenance, or will suddenly find an anonymous donor to make up the difference tomorrow or Saturday, but will need to start the pledges for getting 558 flying next year, unless they actually deliver on the promises of 'we will not be here again as we have a business plan that we will tell you about later that will put us on a sound financial footing sometime in the future.

Presumably, hopefully, it also includes redundancy payments to the air and ground crews/engineers etc? Some of these guys will surely struggle to find alternative jobs in today's aerospace sector. X(

Pam - you beat me by about 1 minute, I was just about to post that there had been a big jump in donations, getting close now hopefully the trustees were aware of it last night when they met which gives grounds for optimism bearing in mind this statement in last Friday's newsletter:

“By Thursday evening, we need to be sure that we will have £300,000 by the end of the week. If there is any doubt, she will follow Concorde into permanent retirement or be sold to a collector almost certainly abroad,” warns trust CEO Dr Robert Pleming.

Andy if they have agreed to go ahead I will be over the moon for all concerned but I don't deny I still have concerns about funding in the New Year.

Didn't PA28 say there would be an announcement today sometime?

There should be no confusion of time, the Appeal runs through all of October.
The Board of Trustees are meeting on Thursday evening to discuss the implications of "where" the Appeal is at.
Maybe one last minute push or even worse.

From that, they will then advise the Trust management of their thoughts. It then gives time to prepare a statement ready for the usual email newsletter on Friday.

Seems logical to me.

Just awaiting the EMAIL then!

Well some people appear to have seen the report from the trustees meeting as it appears that it is looking good to continue, but when it is going to be posted for all to see who knows as PA28 posted at 9.03 that the update was about to go on and others since then have commented that it is looking promising, which is good news for all the engineers etc who could have been out of a job.

Mayfly, agree if as has been said the prject has been saved again from historic evidence it usually goes all quiet for weeks/months after a succesfull campaign and then it is back to normal when they run out of money again, so I truly hope the PROMISED changes and sound financial footing is finally implemented properly, but as has been said doom and gloom and emotional heart string pulling has been a succesfull for 4 years now so it is obviously the way to continue.

Mind you it makes a mockery of the constant blaming the 'recession' and 'hard times' financially that the country has been experiencing for the lack of funding each time it looked like the appeal would not been succesfull. :p

From confused in Lincolnshire, it would appear that despite it being if they had not got 300,000 by the trustees meeting last night a decision was going to be made on the probability of the appeal reaching the target figure by Sunday, but having only intimated that it was a good result from the meeting despite this amount not having been reached (being short approx 48,000) and all off a sudden the update seems to be a large increase in the funding total within the last half hour, yet no news from the meeting last night so it has to be assumed that this money was known about so now the meeting update from last night will be saved again which to me is the wrong way around.

This is turning into a good episode for a new X Files programme with conspiracy theories abound ;)

Anyway who cares now, at least Taff and Co can do what they do best and continue to work hard to give the supporters what they crave for \:D/ so good luck guys hope you have many more days to go before you need to hang up your spanners.
