STRATEGIC DEFENCE REVIEW 19-10-10

Postby Xplumberlives » Tue Oct 19, 2010 3:53 pm

Well it starts to fall in to place, David Cameron has made it clear he intends to sort out the mess he has inherited from the previous government.

One very good example is the 100 or so tanks in Germany for a NON EXISTENT threat from the east while many soldiers have traveled by landrover in an IED heavy Afghanistan.

Shame about the retirement of the Harrier, although a sensible move on the appalling nimrod MR4 farce!

Carriers now to be adapted/modified to be more useful and the COSTS that the Labour Government accepted were woeful!

We now have NO fixed wing naval combat aircraft capability.

Complete and utter farce over the last 13 years

Something has to be done!!!!

How can Labour say it's a missed opportunity??? WTF... we wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for them!!!!

Not a lot of time for him TBH, I think there is a time and place to come out with smart mouthed comments & his about being forewarned of what was coming because of newspaper leaks was to my mind misplaced.

Why go so far? You can get them "factory fresh" from Woodford - probably even pick your own colour scheme.

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

Postby Old Rigger » Tue Oct 19, 2010 7:34 pm

Just remember all the additional people within BAES that will probably be out of a job on top of those allready announced and also you realise that there is now no UK maritime capability for an island nation against the Russian subs, maritime disasters, long range SAR etc and all those experience RAF guys who have no aircraft, so another experience/expertise area that will be lost to the services.

And does anyone really think the French, Germans, Italians and Americans will help fill the gaps and people will soon see that buying second hand old American tat will not be a cost saver or give better capability than what they are throwing away or allow us to use it how we want and neither will it arrive on time or be on budget as the MOD will continue to change the goalposts all the time and their defence industry is no better or worse than ours, then realise that they cannot afford what they wanted and delay which adds an inordinate amount of cost to save a few pounds this week.

plus if Argentina try for the Falklands again there will be nothing we can do about it, oh there is another cost saver lets pull out of there as well, that will save another fortune and what do we need forces for as Afghanistan is the only 'war' and we won't bother with anything else, so they can all sit in UK and man the ambulances/fire engines etc when everyone else goes on strike.

AAAH that felt better :p

Ive just heard a rumour [on Farsebook] that the Sentinels are going too , is that true ?
Doesn't seem to make sense to me , being brand new and being a usefull [especially considering the type of wars expected now and in the future] asset :-?

Edit
Its true [halfway down the page] , FFS ~x(
