Is it true?

Postby PhantomAviator » Fri Oct 01, 2010 11:09 am

According to a reply to the Daily Mail on the other post, the required £400,000 is for rental on hangar space for the winter.
Anyone know if this is true or is it yet another excuse?

Thanks XP I saw that one but it didn't see where it said the money is for hangarage

In that article it says the money is for costly maintenance!

Perhaps I should have gone to Specsavers! :p

Next comment down like this!

The majority of the £400,000 will go on rent for the hangar space, no freebies for the Vulcan from the Mod any more, insurance and paying for the winter service.

If you watch the crowd at an airshow you will see it is not just the older generations which love this aircraft, the young especially love her and the hope is that seeing her fly and knowing what we have achieved in the past will inspire them to get involved with a hands on type of job rather than sitting behind a desk shuffling paper.

Just because she is not flying does not mean the bills stop coming in. £400,000 covers those bills until the Vulcan can get back into next years display season. If the charitable trust which operates her can not see that money they will have to shut the project down as they must not operate at a loss.

The trust directly employs some 15 to 20 people, however they are supported by a vast range of other U.K. companies. The £1.6 million the trust spends each year mostly stays in the U.K.

oh right thanks [appointment booked]

didn't read the comments!!!

Edit: I read it as the majority of the money will go on hangarage, insurance and winter service - but he highlighted that they need to pay the MOD in the middle making it sound as tho' the largest part is for the hangar space...

It is obviously preferable for 558 to be under cover for the winter, but if cash is really tight, is it essential?

She stood outside through a very wet summer at Brize, and before that she was outside most of her service life.

I know she was under cover at Brunty, but wouldn't she survive outside if the necessary anti-dets were completed regularly?

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

And I was always told that garaging a wet car actually made potential for corrosion worse ... and you can't dry off a Vulcan if she happens to go in when she's wet :D :p

Think there is a CAA requirement under the A8-20 authority that for a specific amount of time she has to be under cover...but I could be wrong
