Big hits little

Postby Spitfire » Sat Sep 18, 2010 12:13 am

On another forum I frequent about models I found this which shows a full size Pitts Special with a husband and wife aboard hitting an 8000$ 1/2 scale monoplane at very low level ....Its been taken down from Youtube but is present on this site...

Warning - the language on the video is 'choice' - don't watch it if you are easily offended.

And the written report of the pilots reaction is also a little 'raw' ..... you are warned.

The model pilot is rightly bereft at the loss of his plane - but is also shocked at the possible consequences for the full size pilot had it been worse.

Full size Pitts seems to have ignored the somewhat slack ground controller with the radio IMHO :(
But the model pilot should have had a 'spotter' checking around the sky for him whilst he concentrated on the model.

Imagine that in this country ...... all models would be banned with immediate effect and all Pitts Specials made to fly above 4000 feet at all times ...... not that we are a knee jerk reaction nanny state country at all :))

CRIKEY!!

That was scary, glad the full size one managed to land OK and no-one was injured.

Like one of the guys said the Pitts was so noisy no-one would have heard the real one until too late anyway. Shame no-one was looking left armed with a megaphone!

Gosh, what silly games people play!

So who was in the right, the model flyer seemed to be flying within the guidelines and the real pilot appears to have omitted to contact the tower and request permission for his low pass! :-o

SURELY it would make more sense to seperate these two conflicting uses of AIRSPACE! :ymapplause:

Watch it again my man - there is no tower - its the bloke with the walky talky doing the controlling - and the full size appears to have made up his own mind - the model flyer was sort of warned - but, it seems, far too late :p

VERY difficult to work out any blame - faults in ALL areas - and it all happened so fast and in a very confused situation of who has right of way - is it a model flying day - is it a working airport - is the Pitts aware the model is there - is the model flyer aware that full size are flying ... we don't know the half of it I suspect .

I just thought it a sobering incident for all aviation enthusiasts - full size or model.

And don't call me SURELY [-x

Not hungry today though - may be later :p :D
