Duxford on a non flying day 21-8-2010

Postby Sickbag_andy » Fri Sep 10, 2010 8:54 am

I got dragged to Duxford ( well I was sort of asked if I would like to go as we get two for one with English Heritage cards, and naturally i said yes please) by Mrs Sickbag a couple of weeks ago and have finally sorted out the pics.

I have stuck them all on my Guppy site to save space on here and photobucket, they are all clickable thumbnails and a second click magnifys them to full size, so here's a link:

Great pics Andy, I have never seen the place so deserted! I haven't got 1 pic of the Blackbird without at least 20 people in shot so you did well there! :D

Thanks- I arrived around 11am and it was pretty quiet. We went along the outside exhibits (we were the only people on the VC.10 and BAC111) then worked our way back from the USAAF museum - I think most others did it the other way round so we were in there at a quiet time. It's not just people that are a problem both in the USAAF and Airspace the exhibits are so close together you cant get a decent shot of a lot of it. - It does preserve them well but you can't get a good perspective of many of them, let alone photographs

Seeing as you are not friends with Google at the moment I'll help you out Spitfire ;)

KB889 is one of over 400 Lancaster X's that were built by Victory Aircraft Company in Canada during 1944 and it arrived in the UK later that year. Serving with 428 RCAF Squadron at Middleton St. George it later returned to Canada to be used for maritime patrol and spent some time at the Age of Flight Museum at Niagara Falls. Acquired by the Imperial War Museum in 1986 it was subject to a complete rebuild between May 1987 and November 1994 to return it to its wartime condition. It is displayed in 428 Squadron colours with which it served.
