In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

Sad indeed, but what an awful piece of reporting.
Spectator killed after botched takeoff at German air show

Police say one person was killed and twenty others injured on Sunday after a group of spectators were struck by a biplane that failed to take off during an air show just north of the Bavarian city of Nuremberg.

An accident at an air show in northern Bavaria has left one spectator dead and twenty others injured, five of whom are in critical condition.

According to Nuremberg police, the accident occurred after the biplane failed to leave the ground during takeoff, instead veering off to the right of the runway and into a group of air show spectators.

"It appears that the plane nosedived after having had difficulties taking off," an officer at the scene of the accident said.

According to the organizers of the event, the biplane - with two wings, one above the other - was one of the main attractions of the air show.

It remains unclear what caused the failed takeoff.

The take-off was "botched" (says who?), and the plane failed to take off and then nosedived. I know it has been translated, and may have lost something in the process, but it must have been pretty bad to start with. ~x(

Anyone remember the reporter "Monty Orangeball", who used to feature in Flight International many years ago?
