25.08.10

Not much to report today. The weather put paid to any paint going on, but, I have charged the battery up ready for Sunday.

Also, after moving the sand, she's sitting on her tail jack. The idea is to get the nose gear off the ground by having her sit on her tail, so, the tail jack is in the way. I've tried to retract it manually but it's going nowhere. I've managed to get power to the hydraulic pump but I need to check various valves and switches because it wouldn't hold pressure. I didn't have time today.

Was supposed to have a new volunteer today, think the weather put him off ;)

Anyone we know? Not forecast to be good anywhere today - haven't seen the weather for the weekend, hope it improves for you & CWJ

No, it's a guy from our Facebook page. He seemed really keen so I hope he was serious.

Weekend weather looks ok - Fingers crossed ;)

CWJ was a very good day for us. Took over £200 on the door alone.

We also got a ride on the Nimrod :D

01.09.10

Had a bit of a tidy up after a very successful CWJ day. We had a load of visitors and a good amount in the coffers!

Managed to get a bit of painting done:

Image

and had a bit of help in the form of our newest crew member, Andrew:

Got the red finished, up to the junction:

Also, way back when we first started, we removed a very corroded bracket from the nose gear door. A friend of ours at Bruntingthorpe took it away and fabricated us a new one. The new guy gave it a coat of primer today, we'll paint it white soon and install it

Old and new:

Good day, all in all :)

I was admiring your new paintwork on Sunday, Gaz. Looks good. Daughter was impressed by the size of the cargo bay too. Have you removed some of the panelling at the back of the cockpit? It looked different somehow.

We opened up the two side panels so you can have a look at the old Stratocruiser fuselage, if you so wish ;)

Well spotted though :D

I had hoped to let you impress my daughter with all things Guppy, but I didn't realise you were "doing" until I asked Dickon, who was also "doing". :D

I'm a bit concerned. Young Andrew isn't using his hair to paint the Guppy, is he?

08.09.10

I rolled up today to find Andrew well in to the painting

Image

So I let him get on with that. I had another go at the hydraulics on the tail jack. No dice. I think there's a problem there that needs a proper engineer on it. I don't like to mess with hydraulics too much. I've seen, first hand, how dangerous they can be!

I got a bit of paint on the new nose gear door bracket:

Image

Gave it a dry fitting as well, it's gonna be perfect!

Other than that, just did the rounds of picking up Sunday litter and charging batteries.

Andrew got another 2 colours finished to the junction:

Image

Progress!

Don't know if I'll be up again anytime soon, depends on baby :)
