Thanks for the info Mayfly and XPL.

I seem to remember watching one of those rescue style programmes last year on BBC 1 I think and it featured a Hawk(?) pilot ejecting from something like 20ft. Can't find the info on Google though ~x(

There is no minimum height to eject from, but many seats have upper limits! ;)

We would routinely change the Barometric release units from the standard everyday ones that would allow the pilot and seat to stay together until dropping to 10000 feet and would install a higher separating one if the jets were going over mountainous terrain! :ymapplause:

Funnily enough those dummies that took part in the tests always seem to cope!

I'm not talking about testing and dummies, it was last year I'm sure. I think it was a Hawk, it featured on a BBC programme, something like Real Rescues. The pilot ejected from something incredibly low like 20ft, he was practising a display. Although he was injured he did survive.

I am going to go Google mad trying to find it now!

*EDIT*

Right, it was a Tucano that crashed at Linton on 12th March 2009.

The rescue was featured on the BBC programme called Helicopter Heroes and was shown late last year. Series 3 episode 9. No longer available on iPlayer though.

Pretty sure he ejected from around 20ft though as on the programme I remember them saying his parachute had barely opened before he hit the deck :-o

Don't remember anything like that Thumps - was it recent film of the ejection or archive?

I'm sure I seen a website that lists all ejections some where

Good to see the MAIN GUN has extended through the canopy that was shattered by the MINIATURE DETONATING CORD! :ymapplause:
