Duxford B of B Weekend Sept

Postby Smudger 565 » Sat Aug 07, 2010 3:24 am

I have just been looking the the airshows I might go to on returning home. :D

Besides Dunsfold I was looking at the line up for Duxford B Of B weekend, it is a pretty decent line subject to the usual weather and service ability. :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

17 Spitfires
5 Hurricanes
Lancaster
B17 Sally B
Typhoon
Reds (Both Days)
Hawks + many others

It is a shame the Vulcan is not able to grace the skies at this 70th anniversary weekend.

I might have to pay a visit subject to weather & my serviceability ;) ;) & The better half agreeing \:D/ \:D/

I am really looking forward to the BoB weekend at Duxford, particularly as my plans for the American Day on Friday have been scuppered. Mind you the weather doesn't look too promising for Friday anyway...... :(

One of my friends who offered me a free ticket and transport to the show has called me regarding the show....he sacked it and didnt go in. He says the car parking and getting to the venue was a sham. Said the show had started before he got anywhere near the event. :(

I don't understand Duxford. Last year at American Air Day there was miles of congestion, the parking was a complete joke and when you queued to get in there was a queue of people a mile long because there were only 2 people on the ticket tills. The show started while I was still queueing for tickets, an hour later I STILL wasn't inside yet people were still being charged full price for half an airshow. I found a free field instead, I was bloody annoyed. A month later I was back for the Autumn Air Show expecting the same... hardly any tailbacks, parking was a breeze, I paid for my ticket and was inside in less than 10 minutes.

It seems they put the effort in for Legends, Summer and Autumn airshows and anything else that is slightly smaller they just don't bother doing any organisation. It's got to the stage now that I actually despise going to Duxford as it's a VERY long day of which 90% of it is spent waiting in a queue of either traffic or people.

Was the Autumn show beginning of October? if so we want & drove straight in....

I don't understand why there should be queues they have good road service compared to most venues, so like you Thumps it must be down to inside the airfield!

Yep, the Autumn Airshow is 14th October I think. Absolute breeze getting there and then inside yet the American Air Show was a complete farce!

It can only be cutting costs. Because the smaller events attract less people they simply do not bother with decent parking, stewards, road traffic police/stewards and extra people on the tills. It has been happening like this for the past 5 years I have been though so you think they would do something about it. The amount of people I saw doing u-turns in the road and leaving thoroughly fed up was a huge amount and thats all money in the bank and reputation lost for Duxford.

You are right, the road links to Duxford is excellent compared to other venues. Shuttleworth has truly horrendous roads around it yet I have never queued on the roads or at the ticket booths and it attracts a LOT of people. Shuttleworth have the local cadets sorting out the traffic, parking and tickets and it's always a hassle free day out run beautifully. If a relatively small operation like Shuttleworth can put in the time, effort and small amount of money for ALL their events then why can't Duxford? We'll never know.
