Aviation Classics

Postby Stigish » Wed Aug 25, 2010 4:10 pm

I thought I'd post this up as I haven't come across it being discussed before.

I picked up a copy of Aviation Classics in my local WHSMiths today and so far its a bloody good read. This months issue is celebrating 50 years of the English Electric Lightning.

The magazine is very new with this only being issue 5. It looks like it comes out every 2 months, with issue 6 the Battle of Britain due to his the shelf on the 24th Sept.

My WHSmiths have all the back issues in stock too (Lancaster, Mustang, Spitfire and WW1), so I might have to pop back later to get the rest :) .

Stiggy is this a one of those series thingys that run for a certain number of months/years - or is it a proper magazine like Flypast?
In memory of a very dear friend - Mike Pearson

Very fond memories of Robbie Gilvary - DTs 1st Vulcan Captain who taught DT all he knew.

Its a bit of both really. Its certainly not like those terrible deagostini publications where the mag is about 10 pages long and comes with a naff 'build your own cold war bunker' type thing. It is aimed to be a collectors type magazine and it is purely focused on the aircraft on the cover. Its also got a section about Andy & co's lightnings at Brunty (thats right at the end).

Its got 132 glossy pages with some fantastic pictures and its well worth the £6.99 I paid :-BD

Add: Subs cost £30 per year with a free Lancaster at war audio CD (I'd rather a DVD personally) :D

I also saw it but couldn't justify the price so I walked away with FlyPast and American Car for the same amount instead. I will keep my eye out for other issues though incase they have a Harrier special \:D/
