From what i can gather its an Open Skies flight [most likely an AN26 or the like] from Brize photographing most of our bases .
Heres an explanation of the Open Skies Treaty if you dont know about it ;)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_on_Open_Skies
The aircraft we use for such flights is the Boscombe Down based Andover E3 ;)

Edit
Its a Czech AN30 ;)

So, in theory, there won't be any more Gary Powers embarrasments.

No we are ALL VERY friendly these days! When they make ground visits, they are allowed to look in any door over 2 metres in width! That way they can be sure we don't have any nuclear missiles hidden anywhere! Oh except the small ones!

So this quota of overflights by spy planes is agreed by the Nations party to the agreement, but I presume there are still unofficial spying flights.

Of course, and remember that there were "goodwill" exchanges between West and East during the cold war. The games we play now are not that different from the games we played 40 years ago......... ;)

On the map there are the usual red circles of the NOTAM area but what are the stright blue lines within?
Are those the proposed 'actual' tracks of the aircraft involved?

Blue line appears to be the track for formation flight from your area up to Norfolk!

If you untick everything until the blue lines start to disappear they do look like they are routes for the exercises

Yes I knew you'd sent us to the NOTAM facility and I added it as a favourite then and there :ymapplause:

But I was checking it this morning (as a result of that) and saw this sea of red and thought it worth a mention seperately :D :p

Unticking as MF suggests - and then looking in more depth at the Formation flying NOTAMs as you say - it appears that the Reds are unexpectedly overflying Hayle (my home) at 16.50 tomorrow (19th) - why i don't know - but I will be there waiting :D :D
