Pretty sure the GP displays were centred around Copse Corner. Tornado and Harrier displays were fantastic there, because they were almost directly above you!

The display line looks a bit far from most of the crowd, to be honest. Still, she's a big old bird!

I was having an interesting conversation with the person who organises all the air events at Silverstone last month when I was there for the Red Arrows. They have increased the height of the displays for this year and also made the "turning circle" bigger as well.

All down to last years crash at the WAC unfortunately. I was there for the WAC, XH558 did a lovely display, it was quite low too.

The differences between last years Reds display and this years was quite big, I would say they were at least 100ft higher, a real shame all this elf n safety boll*x.

If the weather is nice I might see if my guest fancies giving me a lift so I can freeload for the air display as I can't afford to go to Sywell, Duxford or Shuttleworth this weekend anymore.

This is certainly better than hot footing it over to Cranfield to stare at a broken Lightning :ymdevil:

Don't mention the broken Lightning, you'll only wind Russel up!

:ymdevil: Whenever I am at Cranfield I have the Benny Hill theme in my head.

Cluny help me!! I can't find any decent freeloading viewing spots for Silverstone!! My usual place is just too far away to get some decent pics. Know anywhere that I can sit for 3 hours with my pickernick? :D

In short , no :(
But this is mainly because ive never tried spotting at Silverstone [well not airborne antics anyway] .
Only spot i can think of is the first roundabout [if your coming from Dadford not Silverstone] , but i think thats where you were last time .
Ive failed :(

:-o I am horrified!! 6 of the best for you m'lad! :ymdevil:

Yes, I was at the roundabout last time and for the Reds this year in a field entrance off the A413.

I come from Lillingstone Lovell direction and poke out onto the A413. Google maps has shown me plenty of "tracks" but they go past some farm houses and I don't want to be nicked for tresspassing or anything. I guess I will stick with my farm entrance because that way I can keep an eye on the bikes and may get lucky with some shots. Just have to put up with the 30 other people that see my bike and like my idea and load the verges and then babble inanely through the displays. If "Mr. I have a mahoosive scanner and everyone can hear it coz I have the volume set to 300dbs" is there again I really will considering shoving it where the sun don't shine! ~x( :p

Not worried about the scanner, but the youtube opportunities for Thumpers planned use of it would be great!

OK I'll take the video camera too :D

*EDIT* Did not bother going today as the Vulcan is grounded at Hurn due to poor weather as is the Lancaster. I did see 5 Spitfires go by my house earlier though :D

Yeah Bournemouth, Shoreham and Silverstone displays cancelled. Not appearing at Silverstone tomorrow as it's the Reds turn but Vulcan is at Sywell tomorrow as the grand finale with the Reds so would be a shame if the weathers naff.

Metcheck and BBC does seem to think that the wind drops tomorrow and the cloud is higher with only the odd shower in the afternoon so fingers crossed!

Are you planning on peeping over the fence at Sywell then?

I have no idea if I will be up to the ride there yet and have to count for the ride back too. The weather looks to be OK so as long as I am not up till 5am again tonight and get some sleep I would love to go and may even consider the £15 entrance fee ;)

Failing that the Reds are at Silverstone which is a more laid back ride and a little closer.

I hope to manage one or the other! Even got a can of Red Bull to give me some wings :))

The weather forcast seems to show a dramatic improvement over bournemouth from about 1pm, so there is hope the Reds & 558 will get off the ground, especially seeing as they are due to finish the show with the 'Hour of Power' tomorrow. Figers crossed you get to see something Thumper :-SS
