We went 2 years ago, and because of the atrocious traffic management I won't go again.

Nice pics. I love the ones of the 380. The way the pilots throw something that size around is amazing.

Rather than start another Farnborough photo thread for yesterday's show, I added them to this topic, I hope that's okay.

I've loaded some pics from farnborough yesterday on my guppy website. they are clickable thumbnails so that the home page for them isn't massively large and thus taking ages to open .

here's a link

Re the traffic. I was staying in leatherhead, the journey was 35 minutes. We set off out of the show at 17.45, got in the car from the Queens Park area, back at the Pizza place in leatherhead for 18.40. No problems either way.

The show was very low par, saying that once the display started it was fair. The display was kept at a distance, the old WW1 stuff looked like flies in the distance, anyone with a short lens would be very disapointed. Why it is kept so far I dont know. The pre-flight commentry by the local radio station was dire, the two lady presenters didnt have a clue, they didnt know what BBMF stood for!

I got a seat in the Grandstand, my view of the runway was hampered by a very long row if speakers, most of my runway shots are spoilt by having to second guess the next speaker post, barmy idea.

Its not a show I would visit again.

Here are a few more

Seems to me the thinking is, as the airfield is already set up & we can utilise a few remaining assets we may as well see if we can get some dosh from the public!!

I think that may be the idea, the trade stands etc are all still in place. The aircraft parked up, lets put show on. It was well attended. To be honest it seemed to me to be a local event, a bit of a fly in. The Yanks were the major players.

Thanks for the comments. :D

My Website is now updated if you wish to view more images.

BTW, some good shots Sickbag.

Thanks Jim - looks like your's were better than mine. I had problems all day getting the camera settings right, every time it was cloudy I found the aircraft dark in the images as the white cloud upset it and when it was part cloud and part blue sky it was very tricky. I tried going on to auto but that didnt seem to cope with the rapid changes, I ended up with lots of dumped shots when I went through them. Still getting to grips with the camera so I need to get out and try some more, have to pop to Stansted when the weather's a bit iffy and fiddle with settings - they say prectice makes perfect!

I commented about the show, display line and traffic elsewhere , if I ever go again (and after this yesr it's a big IF) I shall use the train from London as per yesterday.

Show wasn't very inspiring and once again the B.52 showed it's amazing agility by completing an 8 mile radius turn! I took loads of the WW.1 stuff but even with max zoom (I've only got an 80-300 zoom) there was a lot of white sky around them, I was fiddling with settings throughout but only a few were much good

The sky and settings were bad all day, I was sick of changing it all. Dont do yourself down my friend, they are good shots. My son has a 70-300mm, he has the problem that at its max of 300, the shots are blurred, not crisp. This is the trouble with that size of lens. Thats why I went for the 300mm fixed lens.

Jim

by the way I dumped a load of mine also.

Jim do you use the 300mm all the time for airshows?

Hadn't thought of that although using the lens in auto mode I'd had some good results at full zoom, it may be partly that I'm running before I can walk as I've only had the camera a couple of months but yesterday was a very steep learning curve as far as settings were concerned. Thanks again for the comments , given me some food for thought. (how do I explain another lens to the wife?)

I tend to use the 300mm lens for all shots, however when the big stuff comes along I use a 18-200mm VR lens. With the lens you have to remember that when it gets to the extent of its range it gets weaker, so 70-300 will be fine upto around 250mm, above that it will strain to get the best results. I used to have a Sigma 170-500, that was crap full stop. I find Nikon the best for me.

Regarding some of the posts I went regularly for many years from the late fifties until about 1985 and subsequently a few times. Farnborough has never had any pretensions about about being anything other than a major avaiation trade show, with a weekend bolted on for the public.

In the days when there was always a lot of new and development military hardware it was the best. But those days are gone and I wouldn't trek all the way there to see a couple of new aircraft, with most of everything else available at the other airshows through every summer.
The sky's the limit and so are some people I know.....
