RAF Horsham St Faith (Bomber Command)

Postby 34053 » Thu Jul 22, 2010 10:46 am

On a recent Coach Holiday to Norfolk, Mama Wedgy and I stayed at The Holiday Inn North, just outside Norwich. This was VERY near 'Norwich International Airport' (right on the perimeter). However, it was not that busy an airport, with only small jet and prop planes, plus the Bristow Helicopter traffic to and from the Gas Rigs.
We took a stroll there on our last evening and came across a small, triangular shaped Memorial, by the side of the road into the Airport, to the RAF and USAF aircrew who were based at RAF Horsham St Faith. This was the airfield which was built in 1939 and closed in 1960, eventually becoming Norwich Airport.
We went back to the Holiday Inn, I got my camera and came straight back to take some photos.

Very nice PW. And very evocative memories of a famous RAF Station. I went on a camp there many moons ago and subsequently took several Air Anglia flights in the late 70s before it became Air UK after the merger. So fond memories. Thanks for sharing the photos.
