XH558's poorly

Postby MadNaddy » Fri Oct 17, 2008 2:05 pm

Well, she's not going back to brunty just yet - she's poorly! Just heard there's a problem with her brakes somewhere, so she's not flying back to brunty until poss 7th Nov so it's been posted on the really reliable other forum ( :)) :))

So, that's going to make the fund raising day on Sunday rather interesting now isn't it!

And I just posted saying how I felt it was wrong to limit guided tours of the hangar and now this - I'm a WITCH (with a W not a B ok SM :p ) :))

It was Martin who flew it yesterday though wasn't it. Funnily enough I think I'm right* in thinking it was Martin who also flew it at Brize when it was found she needed an engine change :-?

*Funnily enough as in similar circumstances not funnily enough I'm right for once :p

indeed poor 558, but poor engineers who've undoubtedly just taken most of their kit back to Brunty and now have to go and rescue her ~x(

poor aircrew who've got similar logistical problems too :(

As I haven't been in the aircraft industry/RAF could someone answer a question please? As 558 is stuck at Farnborough do they charge for her bed and board or do they waive the fee? I know commercial airports charge carriers a landing fee - is it the same in the RAF and do they charge a fee for staying such as a yacht would have moorage fees? :-??

Normally all airfields including RAF stations will charge landing & parking fees, landing fees are priced on a sliding scale depending on a/c weight - what/if 558 is charged I have no idea

I would imagine 558 is seen as a bit of a special visitor and that fees would either be waived or reduced, particularly given that she's operated by a charity and is stuck there by accident.

Twitter is saying she's due to leave on the 7th Nov. I'm provisionally booking that day off and hoping that maybe something can be arranged so that people can get into Farnborough to see her off.

ummmm......as I have said I have no knowledge of what terms are /arenot granted to 558 but I do know 558 is only special to some of us, not every one in the industry sees her that way & when it comes down to it business is business

As for 7th Nov it is a possible but not yet conformed with the aircrew

Looking at the week ahead weather forecast I'd say Wednesday would be the most likely departure day.

Hope not. Got a sodding meeting that day. I can probably get to Farnborough Tuesday. Hope we get enough notice for me to make a decision that's not going to cost me a day's money!

From what Andy (320psi) said, Brunty is heaving with trucks and cars.
