Tony, they were PINK, they won't look correct if you substitute brown versions!

I think I'm going to give the 250 Humbrol option a go having read those links. Seems like its a pretty accurate match and I much prefer the matt finish to a glossy one. I can always go over it with a satin varnish if I want to adda little shine to it :D

Now I bet you cant get the 250 in a spray can, that would be too easy!

A link for a Tornado model build in desert pink:

A buccaneer build if you are interested, not desert pink:

Thanks for those links... very interesting.

The Tornado is pretty much the colour I want so I think Humbrol 250 is the way to go. I do have a cheapy Revell airbrush that I can have a go with so I think I'll try that.

I went to get the kit on the way home but despite the store having one in stock on their computer they couldnt find it on the shelves. Hopefully they will have a look tomorrow and give me a call :D

I've started work on the next project, managed to get a hold of an Airfix Buccaneer.

So far have done the main assembleys, some filler work was required but nothing too major. The fit of certain parts isnt too great but its acceptable for my purposes.

Will shortly be getting round attaching wings and then painting it in Humbrol 250, after that final assembly will take place...

Is that the 1/72nd or the 1/48th scale Banana Jet?

Dougs: My only suggestions are:
Make sure you have a board to work on to protect any tables/floors you might wish to make the model on, I use an MDF sheet that sits on a foldaway picnic table.

Do it in stages with say a target time to finish that stage that ties in with school work (if any) bedtimes etc.

Read the instructions and decide what needs painting before you start gluing as it is a pain to mask canopies etc or get into corners if it is all stuck together, this goes with one above.

If your your son has the use of a computer, use the model making to help there as well, by searching for information on making models etc, if you follow some of the links I posted earlier you might find other people have made the same model , this then covers both activities.

Plan with your son on what he wants do do with it and where it will go when it is finished and maybe use that as a means of changing his room and if he would like to make more models in the future.

Now I have not had sons only daughters and I have only just started to re-kindle my model making interest after 40 odd years since I last made one, but I still think the above is a starter for ten as i am hooked and it keeps me off the streets. ;)

Beware of the 'over squeezing' of the glue... ;)

Fun it should be. Always start with a simple kit to build (ie less parts). Explain and identify all bits pre-gluing. Never comment on when they make inadvertantly make monumental errors in a haste to get it finished. Always let them paint it... it is a sense of achievement when they have painted it (no matter how wrong it may look :)) ). Transfers are a sharp learning curve, and may need parental guidance to oversee this final stage.

Once they have made one successfully, the confidence and interest will/should make them hungry for more. Slowly build up to a more difficult model. Airfix have 'Skill Levels' on the boxes as a guide.

Before long he will be building the biggies !!!

Sea Vixens been shelved for the time being due to constructional difficulties [ie gaps you can drive buses through when dry fitting the fuselage halves together] , very disapointed as the reviews i read said it was a good kit ~x( :((

Anyway , ive foolishly agreed to enter a competition on YouTube .

So heres a few pics of my first entry [allowed to enter 2 models] which ive been working on since wednesday ;)
