BBMF & Utube

Postby Mayfly » Mon May 03, 2010 12:49 pm

Heres a link to BBMF on utube they are keeping an ‘online diary’

http://www.youtube.com/user/BBMFPRO

The Lancaster didn’t fly last week as she had an engine problem, and then the wind was out of limits for her air test, so they did a ground run instead & the same engine threw a camshaft I believe!!!

It means she didn’t keep any of her appointments this weekend so the Dak stepped in to cover fro her.....however I assume they have made some progress as the video shows her having more engine runs which were posted yesterday

Thanks, MF!

Does the BBMF change engines on the Lanc during winter servicing on a rotational basis (unintentional pun - honest!), or 'fit and forget' for the duration between majors, subject to minor servicing schedule, or change them dependent upon flying hours?

Thanks again,

I very much doubt that the BBMF would ever fit anything as you say as FIT & FORGET!

Not sure Gully I know they test the Merlins in the Lanc before they fit them to the Spitfires so expect they're in & out as required - I believe the air test for the Lanc should be taking place now!!!

Poor Lancaster sat out side all day being worked on :(

I hope what ever it was they were doing has fixed her and she'll be out and about soon, preferably before the ash arrives again lol :))

I hope it's easy to fix.

They were working on her all day, she was still out when we left at half 4.

The dak did a good job flying over my house on Saturday

the lanc takes a different route so wouldn't have seen it.

read about this on other forums would make sence if just jane could donate a servicable part to help 474 then recall the favour from the raf later when getting just jane airworthy

It would depend if EK has any spares, I guess its the first place they tried - I doubt they would take one off JJ and make her unserviceable as she earns her own keep doing taxi runs.

They obviously forgot something judging by the amount of corrosion in the wing tanks of one of their Mk XIX's!! :p

The defective fuelcock was replaced yesterday with a 'new' item so the Lanc should be up for an airtest by the end of the week.

They should also have the defective one refurbished by the end of the week & are looking at a second spare...

In theory the Lancaster is about to take off for her air test (crosses fingers, toes and anything else than can be crossed), whether or not she is I have no idea lol
If she passes over Lincoln cathedral I'll let you know :D :))
