Thanks all, i had a curry and some beers last night WOW its great to be home :D :D Cluny it is not looking good, i spoke to an american chap in milan his bro. works for th USGS and he had just had a chat with him he said that the ash would not go away until up to 10 days AFTER the eruption has finished which could be a while! realistically best case is the disruption will be weather dependant and intemittant untill it stops erupting worst case no planes this year :-o

I did hear yesterday most airlines doubt they'll be flying before next Wednesday & the MET men said it would take a few days of a fairly strong south - south westerly wind to blow it away from us.

Are you on holiday next week Paul?

Ash cloud is high: some some low-level traffic is around. DHL used to transport medical stuff, so that may explain it.

Apparently KLM and Lufthansa have sent up test planes and are examining the engines, and Air France could be sending one up later today.

Nice to hear those living around the UK's busiest airport, near to one of the world's most popular cities are saying they enjoy the peace, it's lovely.
Well if they want peace and quiet they need to MOVE into the countryside. Although of course, many thousands of people living in areas like Feltham, under the flypath, would probably hear less Heathrow traffic if they all cleared off back to their own countries, the ungrateful bunch!

British airspace closed until 07.00 tomorrow is the latest update. British Airways are flying a 747 from Heathrow to Shannon and back to Cardiff to see what effects the dust has on the aircraft (if any). It's currently in the air heading west at 15000ft. it's G-CIVC operating as BAW 9156 one of only 2 aircraft showing over the UK on Virtuel Radar at the moment

http://www.radarvirtuel.com/

hope it's sorted out by next weekend I'm flying to Italy Monday morning on the 26th.

Latest News: All UK Airports closed until 0100 tomorrow (where have we heard this sequence before?). Also, the Royal Navy will be used to 'rescue' stranded passengers, with Madrid being used as the 'Hub'. The Navy Vessels involved are HMS Ark Royal and HMS Albion, together with HMS Ocean.

Four people in our office are stranded: Florida, New York, Ireland and Cyprus respectively...

Latest from the chap in Florida is that they've been told (by their airline) to expect to be there until at least 29th May... :))

Hard to feel sorry for some - they are single, have no kids, no commitments and their workplace cannot do anything but wait for them .... but they are moaning that they are stuck on the beach in 25c+ temperatures.
My heart bleeds (-|

Do feel sorry for those that are in a living hell right now though :( What has the world come to, when the Navy has to be sent out because of of volcanic ash :-o
