Boo! :((

So what "Iconic" aircraft do we have left in our armed forces that are fully serviceable these days?

Also, why do the Mirkins/any other nation seem to keep their aircraft flying/serviceable for longer (e.g B52's)?

Joking aside they are serviceable for the flight...AAR pods removed and a few other bits and pieces....

As for other nations keeping things flying for longer its down to money ... no surprise there really....

Hi all,

Great but sad day up at Bruntingthorpe, most of the LPG guys who made it over were all standing by the Navy Bucc, got a few pics myself, just snaps though

I only took a few with my digital, took more with my old 35mm steam driven thing, just for the photo albums

Kept swapping between cameras ! :D

Lovely to see the two of them come in together, and the left/right break was very nice

The company who have the contrat to spares recover and scrap them were up there straight away, and when I popped back at 5pm for a close and personal look round, things were already coming off XV109.

'Time is money' was the term I heard

Had a chat with one of the guys in charge, they are going to recover all the spares and scrap all the VC10's at Brunt over the next 5 years, I was lead to belive they have the contract to do all of them.

They would be the people to talk to if anyone wanted to buy one for a museum.

I dont have any contacts

Pics for you

People interested in preserving an aircraft need to talk to the Disposals Service Agency in the first instance. http://www.edisposals.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/Disposals-Public-Site/-/-/-/Default-Start

I can kind of see it from both sides. YES it's always sad when a beautiful aircraft meets its maker, but, watching these guys work today, with such precision, was brilliant

They are only careful as we need the bits .... once we get to the later aircraft it won't be so pretty ....

<sigh> :( sad indeed to see this.

Interesting question though, obviously some of you are well connected for movements between airports and of these activities which is really cool to see and fair play, you guys have more time than me, but do you get much notice for these kind of movements? For instance, I have loads of holiday to take for this year, so if I knew x airfield was going to be busy on x day, or x planes will be making their last journey's on x day, I'd happily pitch up my chair and take a picnic for the day with my camera.

Brian keep your eyes peeled on this forum, there is generally a mention if there's something going to happen especially concerning Bruntingthorpe and BZN & Lyneham, which I believe is your neck of the woods
