RAF Binbrook (pitiful viewing)

Postby Pujgnie » Wed Mar 31, 2010 3:32 pm

Sad when a once 'so proud' RAF Station is left to nature.. including the vandals and dossers :((

There are plenty of other RAF stations on U Toob in same condition. Swinderby is one of them :(
Look Mummy.. there's an aeroplane up in the sky.....

Took a very very far off pic of the QRA shed if anyone's interested.

Nothing a re-roof, a rewire and a lick of paint wouldn't put right. ;)
Probably find that the buildings are structurally sound. Would make a good setting for an adventure camp type centre e.g. PGL or similar. :)

If you have a 'deco' though this thread on this great web site, you will find recent shots of the Q shed and of all the Binbrook site, make sure you have a cushion to hide behind though

Yes, it is a great pity what has been done to Binbrook. I was there for six years in the fifties, I worked on Lincolns and the Canberras B2 and B6 and when 617 Squadron disbanded to form a Vulcan squadron and I worked on ASF and BCAMS for the rest of my time. It was always a happy station, no bull to speak of except for a few days up to AOCs inspection. The SWO ran a book on the geegees and made a packet on the races!! The damage is being done by the local teenagers who are now lazing in the old married patch.

It is a real shame that the resident Lightning couldnt be housed in the QRA. Saying that though, with the taxiways runways gone, it would be difficult to get her over there now and then it would be too far for the public to see it.

Real shame a front line fighter base can be allowed to fall into such a state considering the sterling service it carried out during the dark days of the Cold War.

My father and I went over in early 2003ish to watch the resident Lightning taxiing. We 'explored' the camp and we managed to get into the secured Airman 'H' blocks and the rooms were full of old television sets. Bit odd but they looked dumped. Never seen so many. Lol.
