Hopefully all will recover well and they're back in the air in no time.

Fingers crossed 2010 will still be successful, what with the threat of more cuts as always :(

That's what happens when you start letting women fly these things! ;)

Seriously though, hopefully he's ok and they'll get back to it pretty quickly, looking forward to seeing them as always.

That's why they train so hard for perfection!

It's best to get this out of the way whilst training and not during a display.

Shame to loose an aircraft, is the other one scrap now as well? how many spares do they have?

One in the dirt and the one above only looks as if it will need a fin and rudder change and some investigation of the stress that the airframe has suffered!

I think generally there's one spare which red 10 normally flys, but I believe they use 'stock jets' from the training squadrons as & when required to take into account FI etc. The one they lost at Cranwell last year was a replacement jet that was about to be painted red.

And its not just spare planes its the smoke generating system .. I bet that takes some fitting to a new plane - so I suppose they may well have to put one without smoke in and shuffle the others about to get full smoke effect at the back - then perhaps alter the display slightly to compensate.

I remember them doing that a while back when they lost 2. There was a raspberry ripple flying training school hawk in the formation at one stage if I remember correctly - and one year they flew a season with an eight ship and a space.

Not much left of the crashed a/c - but pleased to report the most serious injury appears to be a dislocated shoulder.

Just glad that there were no fatalities.. :)

Accidents happen - even with the Red Arrows. Given the confined airspace they operate in, it is hardly surprising that something will happen one day... Just because they are allegedly the BEST pilots, does not make them immune from a split second error of judgement (JMO).

Whether it's pilot error or mechanical failure (pending investigation outcome)... I'm just glad that no-one was killed in this incident.

It's being speculated/reported on other Fora - that it was the Synchro pair. No doubt fuller details will emerge in the fullness of time.

If I remember rightly there were 11 maybe 12 Red Hawks on the tarmac back in the summer on one of their visits to Bournemouth (You might be able to clarify this Phill, as it was when I met you there at the shhhhh........secret location :-$ )

Edited to add: There were 11 Reds on the Tarmac at Bournemouth on 07/08/09

There's hope yet :YMPRAY:

Only ever see 10 at that location on the deck. Red 10 overflew arrivals... and landed last. Did I miss an 11th ? (off to check piccies now.... :-? )

On a rather grainy mobile vid/picture there are 9 with open cockpits and the last 2 up nearest to the fence all closed up........I presume belonging to:
Red Ten (Road Manager): Squadron Leader Graeme Bagnall
Red Eleven Wing Commander: David Firth-Wigglesworth

Just thinking the unlikely............Jas back in as Red 1 & Ben back to Red 6 as last year??????????????

Glad both pilots are safe. The RNZAF team The Red Checkers have ended their display season early after the solo pilot crashed and was killed during a routine practice. Apparently he wasn't doing anything considered as a high risk maneuver quite the opposite. Then later at another practice two of them touched briefly with no major damage (a cracked canopy I think) so with this the decision was made to end the season.
Hope the Red Arrows get back flying soon!!
