Pilot hailed for 'Hudson miracle'

The pilot of an airliner that ditched in New York's Hudson River has been hailed a hero after all 155 passengers and crew were rescued.

good to see a happy outcome, not read the link but believe the worse injury was 2 broken legs... & had to smile when they said the pilot was so calm he just sat there drinking coffee.......

an "old guy" of 57 yrs. USAF trained, used to fly
Phantoms, has his own business on the side
teaching workplace safety based on airline usage.

Not a bad pattern to follow........

AND (at least outwardly) calm throughout!

I suppose living with a pilot gives me the 'it's what they are trained for & paid for' attitude & I believe military trained pilots definately have the edge...

but I do confess that after seeing the lastest news report I am in awe of his skills & achievements, that was a brilliant piece of flying just like Art Stacey when he ditched the Nimrod in the Murray Firth I think about 12 years ago

That landing is just as eye witnesses described. Seeing it, is truly believing it!!!

FSX would just have you "crashed" no matter how lovely you glided in

I've picked this up off TVOC - another CCTV which shows much better early footage...
The plane lands at 2.02 mins in at the left - what comes across quickly is the flow of the river as the planes moves relative to the banks - and how quickly the first boats arrive.
BUT - even weirder - as the camera pans to the first boat watch carefully on the far bank - as it pans back it zooms in and if you catch it at 3.57 you quite clearly see a Concorde on what seems like a pontoon next to a Navy Carrier
