Club Membership

I held back on my TVOC reply - I just cannot be bothered to rant anymore :(

Remember....It is your responsibility to ensure your membership is up to date

I know first hand how much work is needed to improve the Club Database ... but for that to be posted just infuriated me X(

I guess you either get 4 duplicate renewal reminders - or they get lost in the post. The club must put in a complaint to royal mail - the amount of their post that gets lost must amount to £100,000s in postage. My club magazine or appeal letters never get lost in the post. Maybe there is a bloke in the Royal mail who's job it is to lose membership renewals only ;)

Makes a club member feel pretty worthless - We obviously have to chase them for the privilege of being a part of this exclusive club? If we don't remember to renew and on time then its our loss.

Sorry Denis - its 558's loss!!!!

Balls to it - I'm not renewing unless I am invited to. Its the principal now! X( X( X( X(

As a Club Commitee member Matt/All, rest assured I see this as a major problem we need to address immediately we know the project is secure. It certainly needs the time investment in not only the Database, but the correct operatives to man the system.

The Village Fete mentality of running things simply has to stop!
There are many on the committee fighting to this end.

Regards,
Ian.

P.S. Can I publicly ask you to join us please and save on the postage??? ;) :))

Wonder what percentage of members aren't getting reminders. I got oned mailed OK, and paid up for next 12 months (certainly wouldn't have remembered it on time without the renewal letter). The confirmation and card took a long time to come back, but arrived this week.

Without prejudice

My membership expired in Jan 09, ok I thought, I'll see when the reminder lands on the mat. Spring came and went, nothing, at RIAT, I renewed giving BrainsMT my details. Summer faged into autumn and still no documents. Spke to BrainsMT again at Lincoln and blessher she PM'd me theother day asking why she had a piece of paper in her bag with my details upon it (DON'T even think about it you lot [-x [-x [-x ).

Lo and behold the same day my membership lands on the mat, letter dated 3rd September 2009 and the envelope franked 12th December 2009.

Come January I will will be dealing directly with Jayne Thomas.

Oh, this morning I get a call from Denis............

The Club is most definitely responsible for retaining the membership. It is not the members responsibility to remember to renew. To do it that way is a guaranteed way of watching the membership disintegrate rapidly.

You don't have to remember to renew your AA membership do you?? They chase after you.

I hope you have an admission of guilt and witnesses!

I see from her registration plate that there is plenty of money to go after, any whiplash? Was that expensive video camera damaged in the collision?

Good luck mate.

Re: Club Membership

Just my thoughts on the latest/current affray; I agree that a party line of "members should be responsible for their own renewal date etc" gives a message that is not in keeping with the 'desperation' of other messages being sent out by the Club and Trust right now, and it is certainly not professional. However, I don't believe for one second that Zero One actually meant it in that way - everyone has faults, sure, but no-one would have put in all those years of hard work, late nights spent sorting memberships etc if they simply didn't care. I read the post as someone holding their hands up and saying he's not had time to do it as well as he'd have liked, but he has now been able to catch up a bit more, and that things will need to change. I suspect that whilst writing it, he was 'thinking' that this is a team effort, and one volunteer cannot possibly be responsible for reminding thousands of people to renew their subscription to a club that they want to belong to; so perhaps he was pointing out that if even 1/4 of the membership took it upon theirselves to note down when their membership was up for renewal, then things might run a little easier, and would free up more of his time to remind the people who can't/won't remember themselves. Zero One, like many volunteers, has many talents but perhaps he can be forgiven if his wording on a private internet forum, at half past midnight, isn't quite as eloquent as those of us who have the gift of the gab?

The actual issue of how the database runs, is completely separate in my opinion and "was the wording of that post acceptable/appropriate?" is not the same conversation as "has Denis done things the right way or should he have snapped up the gift of a solution that SM and Wedgy offered back in the Spring?" For the first of those, I maintain my opinion that no malice was intended by Zero One, and it was just him thinking outloud on a forum viewable by members only, not a press release or anything.

As always, just my opinion....flak jacket donned (the red one with little polka dots :D )

Ooooh you're gonna get it for that........... =))

At the end of the day, Denis' heart is in the right place. He has got a lot on his plate and I suspect that like lots of other involved in this project, goodwill was abused. I have a sneaking suspicion that this abuse may have contributed to DT calling it a day.

Businesses are not wholly run on goodwill. Goodwill is not yet a legal currency.

This is no surprise. If Denis was struggling why not ask for help?

He strikes again with his carefree attitude. Even though my father and I 'remembered' we sent cheques and a covering letter back in July, the cheques still haven't been cashed and are no doubt invalid!

i don't think £24 is bad personally - i think Club members should get more for it though - more magazines etc ;)

I don't have an issue with memberships costs at all. I have family membership which I renewed prior to expiracy over the last few years - by sending Denis a cheque (simples).

Where else - can you, for £20 odd quid get you access to a dedicated forum, where one can read all latest news/updates first hand. Not to mention 'chat' with the Engineers about tech stuff..... and get quaterly mags ?

Denis, it seems - has been has been burning his candle at both ends and juggling his hats. Offers of help have been made over the years. The database needs to be maintained constantly... something it appears, needs more than one person to run and keep updated.

I have no personal issues with Denis - he was always most helpful whenever I spoke with him on the phone. I wish him a happy retirement.
