Australian Sabre Flies Again

Postby Iggie » Wed Jul 22, 2009 11:36 am

I posted this 'on the other side' but I know there will be a few on here who may not have seen it, so:
During my duties on the Vulcan Village at Yeovilton on 'front of house' duties, I was fortunate to meet a great guy, a native of Australia, who was telling me about his work for the Temora Aviation Museum in Australia, and the work that has gone in to returning the CA 27 Sabre to flight after 16 years......He was telling me that the first flight was imminant, and I've been looking out for news since.
The following links give details, video & stills of the test flight that took place 16th July 2009; a beautiful aircraft for sure, and many congratulations to the guys down under who have achieved this succesful outcome!

I wonder how long it will take them to get to a second test flight........... :ymdevil:

IGZ! WOW!

Some of my earliest planewatching memories are
of Sabres doing T/Os and Landings here in Bangor!
There was a batch of them stationed here in the
early days of the marque to do wintertime testing.
At least one crashed (pilot safe) during the craziest
part of the trials. Sabres are hardly mentioned on
here, but they certainly got a lot of combat duty in
during Korea and served with many, MANY Air Forces
worldwide!

THANX!

One of my favourite fast jets, it still looks elegant today, and retains the look of just wanting to fly!

She is Certainly Bee-You-Tee-Ful !

Beautiful as a whole, but also in many of the
little details -- like the cannon slits on the nose,
the little dorsal fin that grows into the rudder,
the precise angle of the wings and the horizontal
tail surfaces. Ahhhhhhh!

Right up there with, and ALMOST as pure as the
Blue Note Hunter! Both feet firmly planted in the
Jet Age!

Yes, my second favourite jet fighter, a worthy jet to succeed the mighty Mustang. Almost as beautiful a jet as my beloved Hunter. Both types have that "if it looks right, it is right" quality. :D :D
