New Corgi Model of XH558

Postby Old Rigger » Sun Mar 15, 2009 9:25 pm

Decided to bite the bullet and ordered this from VTSC Web Shop as others places seem to be sold out. I have also ordered an acrylic display case for all my models, which consists of one large scale wooden Vulcan based on XM607, a 1:234 scale vulcan - XM571, two of the small ones, one white XL426 and the other XH558, one pewter Typhoon and one GR1 Tornado.

Did have a Chinook, but wife dusted it too many times for it to be recovered. :( but have decided to get a die cast one later on this year.

I know what you mean SM, but it is my intention to have at least one model of a type I have worked on, oh and I will stick at 5 Vulcans. I need an F3 Tornado, a Nimrod R1 and MR1 and a Jet Provost, strictly speaking I need a few Tornados having worked on most marks B-), but I will not go that far (yet :D )

I had a wooden one made for DT about 15 years ago - by a guy who lives in Doncaster, it was three times the size he normally made, he said hw would only made 3, 1 for DT, 1 for his daughter & 1 for himself, he gave DT the choice of which he wanted as I had commissioned it.

Talk about women choosing a pair of shoes - DT could win hands down on the 'fussiness' front it took him ages deciding. :))

My wooden one is slightly larger than the new corgi one, if my memory is correct, at wing span 11.5 inches (or in new money, 290 mm) x 10 inches (or 255 mm) and made by some guys overseas. The models were hand carved using a couple of photos of XM607 and allthough there are a few errors we think they are ace (3 of us have them) and as they only cost £50 compared with £120 upwards from other sources, we are more than happy. The same guys did the E3D Sentry that was on the FRA stand in 3 hangar at last years Waddington Air Show.

Well she arrived today an I am well chuffed for the price :D , but there again I am easily pleased. The only buggeration factor is I should of waited before ordering my display case, as this latest aquisition will not fit in becuase of the height on its stand, and I am not to sure the landing gear will take the weight. :((

Lovely display Bovril. Sorted my stand problem for the new XH558 model, the nice man at Corgi/Hornby sent me the smallest height one and it was also free. XH558 now sits in my new case protected from the wifes duster :D My next and probably last one will be the 18 sqd gulf 91 chinook (not the SAS one), if my son in law manages to work E-bay for me.

break them, BREAK THEM, my life wouldn't be worth living - all I dare do is gently blow the dust off them- at the moment there are all a nice shade of grey :D

get them under cover, the shade of grey takes a lot longer to appear :) , they are also safe from the 'I did not dust it, I was cleaning around it and it just fell apart' :((
