Richw_82,

Bad news on the Under Voltage Phase Sequence Unit, we have some, but unfortunately they are needed to support repairs to Generator Switch Boxes for 558 and can't be spared. Sorry mate. :(

Are you sure its knackered?

Ducati Boy,

No worries my friend, thanks for taking the time to find out. Its appreciated.

I don't know if the unit is truly 'dead', as I'm not that good with electrical equipment. I'll have to ask our electrics man.

If it isn't - I don't suppose you know where we can send it for repair?

Regards,

Rich

I think it might have been made by English Electric, long since defunct. Not sure who could fix it, we may be able to help with some info on testing as we have APs for it in the archives. You could try talking to Kev Penfold who is our leccy, e-mail him on: kpenfold@vulcantothesky.org

Good luck :)

Thanks.

I've fired an e-mail off to our electrics man to find out a bit more about it, and I'll go from there.

Thanks for the contact details.

From facebook ;)

Next engine run on 28th January!

This is also the first day of pleasure flights this year at AIRBASE, and it is hoped some of the other aircraft that are normally closed to the public will be open for viewing.

Lets start this new season at take off power...

Perfect excuse to give my new camera a test :)

Take off power being a metaphor for doing well! Hopefully on the engine run for WR963 we'll see the air pressure gauge climbing this time.

Sorry for the momentary lapse, I thought I'd posted the date of the next run in my last update.

The No 2 props are now off site, this time with one of our team. They are being built up in his workshop and returned to site when done. This should minimise outside interference and stop all the continual problems we've had getting this done.

As soon as I get tasked to organise getting 963 on a hard surface, and a crane arranged, I'll let you all know. :)

WR963 has got an article in her own right for once, rather than being a footnote about Coventry.

21 Jan

Today saw us dodging rainstorms to get things done, so no photos from me unfortunately.

Further work to the starboard pneumatic system! We used compressed air from a portable compressor to charge various parts, and it showed up a stuck relief valve, a stuck pressure valve and a charging point venting to atmosphere.

We got the offending items removed, cleaned and repaired. Most of the stuck parts were down to oil residue, or moisture related seizure. The charging point should have been capped at some point, the cap having gone missing. It now has a new one. Applying more air at the compressor end after we got it all reassembled saw the gauge in the cockpit start to rise accompanied by a gentle hisssing sound. The brakes were used (and found to still take up, with no leaks on the undercarraige legs) to discharge the system and recharged once more. It appears to be working.

We'll know for sure when the engines are run next week whether the compressor and the system as a whole is behaving as it should.

Last but by no means least... one of our crew snuck in to AIRBASE, carrying a rather long roll of carpet. His taste in carpets is awful, but contained within it were two jewels... replica Hispano cannons for the front of WR963. They didn't stay in the carpet roll long, they're now right where they should be! The mountings will get revised when we get a front turret, but for now even in the fixed position in the nose they look fine.

Work on the conversion back to long bomb doors is to start in two weeks time. Watch this space.

Kind regards,

Rich

Talks yesterday confirmed that WR963 will be going in the hangar for a short period during mid-April. This is to do the required mainwheel/brake replacement.

Thanks are again due to Classic Flight for making room for us during a busy maintenance period.
