This came off Vulcan xh558 facebook page about 33 minutes ago.

I should have waited until it was announced on the official forum :(.

@ MOD
Just read your reply. This is was what I got from 'the other side'.

Minty,
Not a problem from my end, but perhaps best you wait till "I've done the rounds' to keep everyone happy that they have been told in the correct manner. Facebook is fairly instant, while Twitter can take time to populate due to network coverage.
The iPhone App works a treat too you know, so wait till we have the other formats covered. That takes an automatic feed off the Web site, so why it is important to do those 'instant' ones first.
Cheers,
Ian

Hope that answers your question about "who says".

I don't know, but I think many may feel agrieved because after years of the forum being the first port of call when funding is urgently required it is now bottom of the list for updates.

Personally I would have thought the first place for updates would be your own web site then other media outlets... however mine it's not my decision! :p

@ Mayfly
This came from PA28 on Wednesday 31st August.
Our retained PR company deals with national Media and helps with longer term marketing initiatives.
Their principal helps looks after the Facebook page for us in his own time as part of his commitment to the cause, although all channels are monitored and can be edited or published by me if required.
There will be no such thing as 4 day delays. We have Twitter, Facebook and Home Page 'latest news' and header scrolling scripts which can all be used instantly for any breaking news. (Even an iPhone App that will tell you all the latest too). There is a small team with approved IT access who can access all channels as necesaary to give cover.
The newsletters are published by the Trust and are formed from a script that is created by myself, then sanctioned and edited by Robert Pleming, Michael Trotter and Andrew Edmondson, with other input from various members of the Engineering or Flight Crew teams as required - depending on what situations/stories are relevant at the time.
Please remember, we only ever publish known facts and the news published by these methods are your only source of 'official' information.
Anything else you might read on 'internet land' might be, and probably is, pure speculation.

That may answer your question, or not.

Apart from the guys with scanners who instantly post what they hear over the airwaves of course!! :p

Whatever else I simply don't get why the Homepage of their own website isn't updated before any other media outlet be it Twitter or FB...

The Home page is stacked with pleas for donations and sponsorship and contains the forum for the Official supporters club, so why not update there first followed by the forum, seems to me only the polite thing to do and the correct protocol.

After all we know that club members have given to the cause even if it's deemed indirectly, where as you could have a million followers on Twitter or FB but that doesn't mean any of them have donated.

Not moan or a pop just something I personally make sure happened even if it was only seconds before the others.

Seems to me that when there is a need for donations, the exhortation to members is "Get the word out, tell the world", but when it is only news, the instruction is "Keep it secret till we've got round to putting it on the website".

Bit of incompatibility there, methinks. :-?

I totally agree MF, the official website and forum should be the first places any info on 558 should appear :D

That fact is, If it is on Facebook, those that have access to it have the info before others. This means it is already in the public domain and people will pass on this info to other interested parties etc etc. I agree with MF as well regarding the order in which it should be done but it does seem rather pathetic to have the info out there then request it not to be passed on :-o
This is still "The people's aircraft" is it not?

I let my membership lapse for a number of reasons. I still feel that the engineers, volunteers etc do a brilliant job and I still and always will enjoy seeing XH558 in the air so I help in other ways where possible.

The latest newsletter has just this minute come through and in short they say, 'confidence is high that 558 will be serviceable' for Portrush on Sunday.

IBW - PA28 is working his wotsits off all hours on Trust business. He stepped down from the Club Committee a year or so ago due to pressures of work and competing family commitments. Your £24 goes to the Club (or did do), not the Trust who employ PA28. The Club, in so far as is possible and amongst other things, provides a conduit for Members to communicate with the Trust - we meet with them on a regular basis and speak often: if there is a specific matter you would like to raise with them, please drop me a line.

As for the order of populating the various media, Twitter and Facebook can be done from a phone from just about anywhere (and I believe are actually populated by a 3rd party company with multiple resources) - the other two need PA28 to be near a PC, which is not always the case. Plus, the Twitter feed runs on the homepage anyway.
