Cool my ar$e! :-o

I had no idea what the hell he was doing, trying to kill me was all I was thinking!

The only thing I can laugh about is my friend lying on the grass with her hands over her crash helmet as she too thought it was coming down to crash and she refused to get up or move for at least 2 minutes :))

I can see why it had that effect Thumper. Families and air days when I was a kid (me and a few more on here no doubt) scared the cr@p out of me more than once by sneaking up behind us low and noisy. I can only imagine what it must be like in your situation. I loved it (after the heart returned to normal) but was standing on a grass bank at a RAF base not riding a bike.
Those were the days when the Reds came from behind (ooer missus) and 2, 3 or more Vulcans did the same. You didn't hear them until they were there if you know what I mean.

Jiggy rambles again sorry :D

I feel for you Helen, we were "targeted" by a Harrier a couple of years ago. I use targeting a bit tongue in cheek really, but it was dark and we were the only car driving down this particular country lane (Near the old Bardney airfield, Lincs) and this thing came out of no where about 50 feet (just a bit higher than the height of a telegraph pole) and we nearly ended up in the ditch.
I say to this day it saw our head lights and "aimed" for us. Too much of a coincidence that it came right over us.
I'm pretty sure it was a Harrier, but to tell the truth all I know is it was small, fast and loud :))

Second time one has attacked my mum ;) :))
You'll have to ask her about the one at Coningsby :)) =))

I personally think it was THIS PILOT wanting payback for ME targetting HIM at Coningsby earlier in the year :))

Image

It was really scary though, probably wasn't much higher than that either. Sounds scary with that Harrier Helen, what happened at Coningsby then? The first time I ever went to the West Country on the bike I had an Apache "following" alongside me. That was really creepy as those helicopters just look plain evil!

Thanks for sympathising and being the same Jiggy! I was always up at Coningsby with my Dad from the age of about 3. I liked most of the aircraft, the Harriers were always my favourite. The Phantoms I wasn't keen on and as they were loud and had a habit of doing a low fly-by, usually in pairs, before coming in to land. My memory isn't too great on what was at Coningsby but back then it was a hive of activity with the Falklands War. Warthog's were there, I liked them as they looked cool.

I have posted it on here before but just for the newer members here is the link to a video my Dad took from Coningsby in '83. The sound goes out after a bit as it's VHS to DVD.

:D

Well phoning RAF Benson didn't quite go according to plan. Because it was not in a 5 mile radius of there they put me through the MOD low flying COMPLAINTS #-O

I did try to get across that I was a huge aviation fan and that I was not complaining, it was mega totally awesome cool and I just wanted to know why they were so low... but no, apparently that height is far from acceptable so a complaint IN MY NAME has been made ~x( ~x( ~x(

Apparently I'll get a letter explaining it all sometime in the near future.

Damnit, I wasn't complaining! :((

Next time ring the Sqn Ops room and ask the duty pilot if there is anything likely to be operating in your area! ;)

Wouldn't worry too much Thumps 20 ft is very low I suspect they would be taking roof tops off at that height so I would, without knowing the area or seeing them, suspect 20ft is an under estimation of their height... mind you I see a wokka skimming the hedge rows 2 fields away the other day :-BD

Lincolnshire hedges are famous for being a real test of horse and rider in the Hunting field ;)

I couldn't find an Ops number on the Benson website XP, perhaps you could have given it to me :p

Like I say I didn't personally see them with my own eyes but the noise was so loud I knew they were incredibly low and then the txt I got from my friend confirmed it. 20ft is possibly an exageration on both of my friends parts as that really is collision course with rooftops, I would say it was more likely to be 50ft, either way it's damn low!

Who'd have thought Milton Keynes was that interesting :))

Thumps' I've just spoken with the Duty Pilot, he was up last night, but nowhere near MK, they are cleared to a MINIMUM of 150 feet at night and 50 feet by day, he also mentioned that the remainder of the Sqn are currently operating around the Salisbury Plain area! :D

Hence the reason the hedges in Lincolnshire are 50 ft high! :D

Well they did come in from a south-westerly direction so Benson, Brize, Boscombe, Yeovil... could be any of those I suppose!
