SYWELL AIRSHOW 2010

Postby Xplumberlives » Mon Aug 23, 2010 4:30 pm

Went to Sywell early on Sunday and walked through the countryside to sit just on the end of 23. I watched the arrivals and the marvellous display, just a shame the weather didn’t stay as good as it started.

It was a good show by all accounts despite 558 & the Reds not making it

Never seen one displayed better, Peter Teichman certainly knows his stuff and the Storch was flown by her owner Peter Holloway following the fitting of a new engine, he's a natural and landed at walking pace in to the breeze! :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

He's my favourite Hurri pilot and Dan Griffith my favourite Spit pilot. Wish I'd seen that Storch short landing. Take-off is pretty impressive into a stiff breeze, isn't it?

Apart from the traffic arrangements, and the Vulcan and Reds not being there, it was a nice day. All the displays were good in their own ways. The Vampire stood out I thought, some lovely fast passes with a nice view of the top surfaces. The curved crowd line helps there I think.

Nice to see the Dakota and Anson together. It's the first time I've seen the Anson display, and the first time I've seen a Dakota display since the 2000 RIAT at Cottesmore.

I reckon you must have been fairly near me XP. I seem to have some similar angles on some of my photos. That said, you're near everyone at a small venue like that!

We didn't get to Sywell till 3.30 and watched from the outside (had every intention of getting there for 10.30am but didn't happen)

We were really alarmed when the Spitfire or Hurricane (not sure which) on the downward leg coming into land we heard its engine popping and misfiring. Didn't sound like it was firing on all cylinders. Other folk by us were also concerned what was going to happen.

Does anyone know about this, but it sure didn't sound healthy

I like the cornfield shot, really good how you waited for the right time to take the picture. =)) =)) =)) =)) =))

Great shots though, good angles, like the spit in contrast.

A MERLIN engine pops and crackles when throttled back, nothing to worry about and a truly wonderful part of the MERLINs charm!

Looking at these shots and some I have taken from outside the show grounds, I find that you get better results. turns etc are executed overhead rather than in the distance. :D

Indeed, I will only consider going INSIDE if it's a two day show!
