Plan to build up to 1,600 homes on Wellesbourne Airfield - See more at:

http://www.stratford-herald.com/local-n ... xieWR.dpuf

This could change any potential noise problem into a far greater problem for the users of the airfield.

And exactly what planet is this on ... :(( :((

The LAST thing will be common sense ... the hierachy of these types of decisions goes...

1) GREED
2) PROFITEERING
3) BACKHANDERS
4) GREED
5) BACKSCRATCHING
6) GREED

93) COMMON SENSE

And 'Public Consultation' periods are a euphemism for - We've already made our mind up and you lose - but we'll let you think you have a say ... even though you haven't [-x

'Steering Groups' and 'Steering Committees' are the same thing by another name - just ways of wasting time and hoping the protesters give up before the decision goes the way they want.

If this is defeated and it doesn't go ahead in some form I'll eat my laptop.

Think about the owners perspective ... you can have several million squids in your pocket now - or - nothing and a warm fuzzy feeling for letting a few spam cans fly and an old noisy tin triangle to rust in peace .... ;)

I've seen it time and time and time again ... sorry to be defeatist but it'll need a 'mackerel' of some tune to stop housing developments when huge profit is the ultimate prize ~x(

I've just given up fighting it ... I've been on the losing end of more public consultation periods and steering groups to last me another lifetime ... I've lost jobs - houses - and sanity to the greed of others - and when big bucks are involved you can be as dedicated as you like but if they don't give a monkeys about your cause and have pound signs in their eyes it's a very sticky wicket ....

It was just the 'common sense' that got to me - common sense goes out of the window where money is involved - every time - sorry if my comments make you feel hard done by - and I know you'll fight your corner - but it just makes my blood boil to see land development riding rough shod over everything... and the money wins every time :((

More power to your elbow - I'll pray for the mackerel ...you'll need a netfull ;)

i can see what spitfire is trying to say as i have seen it myself and had to do battle with the local authority before they are very very iffy, and justice does not come into play at all. just backhanders and who you know. I do hope you guys can stop them i really do, but that will only be down to how big the bribe the developers can come up with. Beware though as the fall back trick is to turn it down and come back in a few months once people have got used to the idea, our local has done this trick on at least three ocasions all sucsessfully ~x( ~x( useually with some small amendment like a public green space or some such rouse.

is the distance to the houses the issue as i understand it they are outside the airfield boundry?

Yes of course it is :D .. but I did do you a disservice as my son and I have a mantra which we have used to overcome his many adversities - it's the quote from 'The Shawshank Redemption'...

'hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies'

and you did say -
Mayfly wrote:I HOPE common sense prevails

So, in reality, I suppose I can only agree with that as a sentiment ;)

I too HOPE you win over the greed and the money - my best wishes to you for a successful outcome - good luck :p

You misundertand the situation. This latest proposal is for the sale of the whole airfield, farm and Saturday Market site to create a very large 'mixed devlopment' for more than 200 acres of land.

This makes the situation clear:

Mods - for the future avoidance of doubt, can you purt this latest development into a new thread?

I know the airfield owners were offered several million for the site some years ago and they turned it down. The site must be worth double that now. As I understand it the owners will try to protect both the Vulcan and the museum but if the sale does go through I can only see 655 being on static display. :( Perhaps we could get DT to do one last flight. ;)

Again - not wishing to be a killjoy - but what the owners say they'll try to do - and what they'll actually do - and what the new owners will then say they'll do and what they end up actually doing is all up for speculation and is a complete unknown.

Down here a massive development of the harbourside quay was put up for planning - the owners (ING) put in a plan that was horrendous - everyone baulked - furor followed - so they had a 'public consultation' - put in a new plan with all the amendments required - we were to get a cinema - leisure centre - etc etc all thrown in ....
They GOT the planning permission - waited a few months and then bleated that it wasn't now economically possible to do what they planned - so went for variation of plans that they argued were 'already passed' and made huge changes to include NO cinema and No leisure centre and the council rolled over and let them have their way - money wins again :(

Unfortunately for 655 Wellesbourne airfield is in a location that if they can get permission to build houses on the airfield the developers know that they will be able to sell them as it is just down the rd from Stratford Upon Avon

The other problem is Stratford District Council planning is in utter turmoil at the moment as they have no core strategy document in place (plan on where 15,000 houses are going to be built in the district in the next 15 year) ..at the moment it is a builders paradise here and planning applications are being whacked in every other day of the week for new estates and houses in the locality.. A couple of weeks ago Cala homes submitted plans to build on the entire nearby Long Marston airfield.. Virtually everything has to be approved as long as they can demonstrate they are in planning terms "A substainable development"..if as has happeed the councils turn down the applications the developers simply appeal to the Government inspector who comes down gives the nod and gives the council a big bill!

All in all a big mess motivated by greed and money I am afraid so enjoy wings and wheels whilst it last and maybe work out a way of getting 655 out in one piece? ...

Perhaps if you ask nicely they might lend you this?

i love how everyone goes down the greed route!

no one here has any idea why it has been put up for sale, and the only other option if the family want out is to sell it as an airfield, and if they do this whats to say the new owner won't sell it for development at a later date and make a huge profit.

i know its not great but it may be the only option for the owners.

you all need to stop speculating before you get the facts.

I think you'll find there are a number of people on here who know exactly what the situation is and why it has been put up for development.

Don't make the mistake of assuming everyone is as ignorant as you are.

Err, because they work at the airfield in very close proximity to the family who owns it....

Indeed Ramshornvortex, Sooty 655, Bovril and I to name but a few have put in many many years in at Wellesbourne and many thousands of man hours on that old jet and we do not want to see it stuck in a corner or worse get the chop due to someone getting ideas.
