One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

It was fantastic to see 558 again over Wellesbourne, Martin made two passes the last one directly over 655 with a high power climb out. Thanks to all who made it happen. :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Question - what's the function of the hole on the inside of the engine intakes? Never noticed it before.

It was a brilliant display by XH558 over XM655 at Wellesbourne today with not one but two powered climbs that set the car alarms off and gave me the earwax treatment.

I've uploaded two pics to the XM655 gallery so far but come back tomorrow evening for more,,,

Thanks to all those - Mike Pollitt especially - for making this happen. We were all very privileged.

Excellent photos Bovril.... Not a great deal to choose between your Canon & my Nikon!

On studying this photo though I notice the pairs of engines look completely different. Can anybody explain why (in laymans terms please - I'm only a mere accountant!)

Snapper are you referring to the flat plat between the stbd engines?

The counterpoise panel!

Ermmmm Yes - 'The Flat Plat' or 'Counterpoise panel' . Its just that I'd have thought (in my sweet ignorance) that any difference between port/starboard would have produced an imbalance in flight... Now don't get technical on me!

Just a mounting plate for ECM aerials, some had one and some had none and I think some may even have had two!

Although I am quite happy to be corrected!

If you mean the hole alongside the fuselage in the root of the wing, it is the ram air intake into the ventilation system. There is one on each side.

The thin "wall" between the hole and the engine intakes is a boundary layer fence, which helps to ensure a smooth uniform flow into the engines.
