MaPS would like to get in touch with whoever is doing it to discuss providing them directly with updates and information that might not be available on our web pages. My understanding of twitter is limited, but I think I can only direct message people who follow me, not the other way around, so if anyone can help me get in touch without tweeting to the whole world, that would be great!! :)

I have looked at it occasionally and thought it well done but assumed it was one of the team!

These links were posted on the same XM655 Twitter feed as mentioned above. As has been said, it is a very good source indeed :ymapplause: Apologies if they have been posted here before ;)

Edit: Twitter lists the "Tweetmaster" of this Twitter feed as "Dave Taylor". Does that help?

What a wonderful slice of history!

I notice on the third landing attempt the
underwear deploys Right on the Money :D

A great display of flying skills, too!

I'll be watching this set of three over and
over again.....

Thank You Jiggs :ymapplause:

Here's a much more up-to-date video of XM655 shot on professional equipment, utilising an R22 as an aerial platform, at W&W in June:

RHV:::::::::::

That newer vid is very nice, except for
all the music, but I still prefer the old,
faded historic ones....

One thing, though, is that 655 certainly
is far prettier today than she was then!

Now, why might that be :-?

Have any attempts or has there ever been any contact made with Squadron Leader Joe L'Estrange? He certainly comes across from the videos as a very charismatic character. Wouldn't it be fantastic if he would be willing to come along to next years Open Day and give a brief chat on the PA giving his recollection of the day 655 landed at Wellesbourne

Indeed I invited Joe to join us in celebrating the 25th Anniversary of '655 landing at Wellesbourne back in 2009. He and I exchanged a couple of letters and very entertaining telephone conversations. Alas, Joe felt that the long car journey from Lincolnshire (where most retired bomber crew seem to retire) to Warwickshire would be a bit too much for him and he politely, but firmly, declined my invitation for him and Mrs L'Estrange to attend - this, of course, was over three years ago. It would be impolite of me to talk about his age, suffice it to say that he joined the RAF during the last great unpleasantness, and was still serving in 1984..... :ymapplause:

There's lot of great stories on t'interweb about Joe and his exploits. He was famously intolerant of air traffic controllers, many times berating them for not giving him exactly what he wanted (immediately) - and yet he was (and still is) happily married to a retired RAF air traffic controller..... :ymdevil:

Thanks Dave for your support of XM655 through the social networking route - it's very much appreciated by us at MaPS, particularly as most of us are old timers who struggle with anything more modern than a Vulcan!!
