It is up to individuals to decide if they want to give or not - I don't care if some say I can afford to give but won't, it's their decision, but no-one should be made to feel bad whatever they decide and certainly no-one should put themselves in hock by giving more than they can afford.

Know what you mean about the yellow planform, MF! Can't stand it! I have a Club polo where the logo incorporates the planform, but it's a bit more subtle and less dated! The old 558 Club branding was much better!!

Hopefully, the rather swish (or should that be swoosh?!) 50th birthday logo on the appeal homepage will be seen as an opportunity to launch some new clothing lines!

Hi Guys,

If any of you have received two sets of information, this time, please either PM me or email the details to thunter@vulcantothesky.org.

This particular mailmerge dataset was the result of merging three databases. The Pledge database from earlier in the year, the Friends database (people whom have helped in the past) and the current Club database. Whilst every effort is made to ensure that duplicates are removed, much of this data is changing on a daily basis, many entries are from the same people sometimes with many years between those entries. There were over 33,000 records and that was reduced from over 40,000 but sometimes electronic and even manual checks can fail for example, one person may have entered his information in the following ways dependent on where they recorded that data - Mr John-David Smith, Mr John Smith, Mr J Smith, Mr & Mrs John Smith, Mr & Mrs J&E Smith, then there are the typos, mistakes in post code, operator entry mistakes, etc. I AM working to improve the information which is held on database and Denis, the club Members' Secretary is working on the Club data, but yes, we will both miss the odd ones. Sorry Mags, I didn't mean to suggest that you are odd :( .

If you received two sets, then please consider the use of the duplicate poster inserts to spread the word in your local area. Even if you do not feel able or willing to make a financial committment, you are here and you are talking about the aircraft and underneath the negativity you want to see her continue to fly.

Finally, apologies, on my part, to any of you who receive duplicates on this mailing. I can confirm that if you let me know of any mistakes (duplicates, erroneous information etc) I will ensure the relevant databases are corrected.

negativity
aaarghh :( , there is that horrible word again, I wish it could be removed from the english language or at least from being bandied about at people who have an opinion that differs from others on the forums.

Did anyone hear a radio news item with RP yesterday? It was on my local independent station

It was obviously cut & edited by the radio station but to my mind it gave the totally wrong impression. RP was heard to say that this year they needed an extra £800K because there are 32 explosive items that need replacing every 2 years [fire bottle cartridges] if I hadn't have known better that would have said to me they would need an extra £800K EVERY 2 years simply because of these carts. As I said it was down to the editing I believe but not a good impression.

We all know that there is far more than just those items to be serviced that accounts for the extra funding required but it goes to show how the media can influence opinions.

It also goes to show that when you are doing media
interviews like this one you need to ask for review
of the final "product" that will actually go out over
the air. In this way, you aren't interfering with free
reportage, just "fact checking". It's like taking a
second before going out to make sure you haven't
left the stove on or the iron plugged in.

Standard Procedure.......

Seems a lot of members are getting duplicate copies of the fundraising pack. I hope they put them to good use - so as to cover the postage costs incurred due to this database 'glitch'.

I got 2 copies too. Toni has already sussed out why (in my case)... :)

I had them photocopied to A4 size and have been dishing them out since yesterday. Bournemouth Aviation Museum has put an A3 on the notice board and one in the cockpit of XH537. Various Plumbers Merchants now have one... and a local Post Office (with a very busy bus stop outside... should generate interest from the schoolkids when they go back to school) :) .

Going to suss out a few more Post Offices and Libraries tommorrow. May need to get more copies printed =)) .
