Theoretically yes, now as for COST and whether RR would be interested in doing the work are the next questions leading on from yours!

I'm looking at the situation from a classic/historic car point of view, yes I know they don't take to the air, however, many old cars out there have none original upgrades/replacements.

Brakes, steering, complete engines, suspension, all that the public see is the original body, I drove an MGC GT Sebring replica 0-60 in 7.5 seconds bloody awesome, public comments, ahhhhh what a nice old car.

Anyway I'm off to the pub for a few beers.

The difference being Ray that with restored 'Complex' aircraft the CAA and the OEMs have to approve every step of the restoration and in particular any non-original equipment - if they get it wrong the consequences don't bear thinking about.
In contrast to your local MSA scrutineer who will use the 'Blue Book' as his guide which is not quite the same thing.

I think if she stops flying next year as is suggested many people will stop donating,, simple! But reading DB's post surely its best to highlight this mod now so as to keep her up there^^^^^^. Thats where i want to see her for more years yet please!!!

Wish I could give you a simple answers and some guarantees, but there just ain't any. with so many variables running one can only hope things come right and she flys for many years yet. It won't be for want of trying.

Simply my opinion (no more than that, hence the "I think..." opening) based on the risk that at some point a birdstrike may take out two engines, the lack of unlimited quantities of available spare engines (which isn't likely to get any better), the understandable caution shown by the CAA with regard to XH558, and the established track record in bitchiness shown in the past by some supporters of XH558.

I'm not sure why you are so hostile, unless you are suggesting that XH558 will definitely cease to fly when there is only one spare engine available. If that is the case, it would make a cost-benefit analysis of the FI mod (which you have previously referred to) somewhat eye-watering.

Having looked at the pdf for the V3 project, and if the trust manage to get the funds, why not build it and house 2 Vulcans under one roof at Wellesbourne

As for the education side, more has to be done now while she is still flying and not as a static or taxiiable aircraft, by then it would be too late.

I dont think, that at this moment in time, anyone knows for certain where she will end up no matter what rumour control is saying right now, things change.......

Against my better judgement I will respond as you seem unable to actually read and digest what you get from those who seek to light the darkness of ignorance. I cannot suggest any solution to the engine situation as I simply do not have that information. However, I prefer to remain optimistic that all may come good and it won't be for want of trying(see my post before last).

You are quite rightly entitled to your view of course, this is an open forum. That is assuming and telling us (all 558 supporters) in advance how we will all behave in a future situation. You have no ability to foresee how supporters of 558 will react and no right to insult them all in advance. I don't "bitch", I get on with the job.

As for CAA they have taken proper caution in awarding TVOC a Full BCAR M5 maintenance authority which has been hard earned and frankly speaking, you sir are not qualified to comment on that.

If that were the case, one would also have to wonder why I spent time, money and effort designing and manufacturing for TVOC tools which were otherwise unobtainable. I have neither axe to grind nor chip on shoulder to use it on.

We know that she can fly at least until the end of the 2013 season without these modifications, but beyond that we have to consider alternatives that may be more realistic.
One of these is that she will continue to delight audiences with fast taxi displays, but that the majority of the cost of operating her will be mitigated by no longer maintaining her Permit to Fly.

somewhere on the website it said xh558 would be flying for at least the next 10 years, this isn't good if they are saying next year will be the end, and anyway we already have taxing Vulcan's.

Somewhere on the website ??? For those of us that don't have access to the relevant info thats a bit vague. Even when 558 flew for the first time after restoration I can not recall any set figure for her flying life .at that time she had 8 engines & the prospect of some MOD's at a later date & a lot of optimism & speculation re length of flying life If I recall correctly I even think something around 7 or 8 years was bandied about .Reading the link in the first post I do not see any reference to 2013 being the end what I see is the end of 2013 being a time for possibly a different direction but nothing about it being the end of flying ( I may have read it wrong though being doing a lot of that of late).
As for taxing Vulcan's Is there not only 655 that is live and taxi's I don't know about 426 at Southend for a while and can't see her doing to much trundling around taking up time on a live runway so to me that not Vulcan's it's just 1 Vulcan for now.

Oh and just my thoughts I think 558 will return to Brunty to join the live fleet there when her flying days are finally over .Unless of cource they can buy land and build an exibition centre at Robin hood with rare taxi .That could be the future today there is a flying aircraft lets all enjoy it while we can.
