Following successful restoration by The Vulcan To the Sky Trust, the legendary cold war bomber has packed airshows for the last two summers, helping to make them the second most popular visitor attraction after football. But now due to a substantial drop in donations during the recession and poor weather that stopped her flying at several profitable events this year, the Trust must raise £400,000 by the end of October.
Q& A with Dr Robert Pleming
How serious is the financial situation?
It's very serious. We need to raise £400,000 by the end of October. This will see us through to the end of the year and prepare the aircraft for the 2011 display season, but we have to know very soon that it will be available to cover our commitments.
How much do you need to operate through 2011?
We typically need about £150,000 a month to cover all our costs, including flight operations, maintenance and educational activities.

?? Anyone else not able to get on it?

Lots of commercial and fundraising opportuntites are opening up, and will be announced and activated once we get past this hurdle. All one can hope for is continued improvement from "where we are".

We can slate the running of the show to date but at the end of the day, if she doesn't make it through this, then it won't matter a toss as she'll be gone and that'll be the end of the story. I can however understand folks getting fed up with it all!

I was just stating that I was hanging on in regardless and trying to keep as neutral a view on the matter as possible - I'm just TOO lazy to be bothered discussing it

. 5 days left to get £159,381.

But I do understand some of the points and comments made on them.
My concern is where we go in January but PA28 saidLots of commercial and fundraising opportuntites are opening up, and will be announced and activated once we get past this hurdle. All one can hope for is continued improvement from "where we are".
I wait the announcement.

at the £10k per day rate that would make the funding around the £300k mark by the end of the month.....“By Thursday evening, we need to be sure that we will have £300,000 by the end of the week. If there is any doubt, she will follow Concorde into permanent retirement or be sold to a collector almost certainly abroad,” warns trust CEO Dr Robert Pleming.
