If the education thing never got off the ground when she was flying and advertising her self at her best I'm not sure I see this working when she's grounded.

I would like to be wrong when I say I'm not sure an active airport would be the best place for her to carry out fast taxiing either as the public can't get live side but guess it all depends if they have other plans on where they can base her within Finningley.

somewhere on the website it said xh558 would be flying for at least the next 10 years, this isn't good if they are saying next year will be the end, and anyway we already have taxing Vulcan's.

Dan4th there is the 'leading edge mod' that can be done to increase FI, this was never done in the RAF on any Vulcan tho' and I saw on the club forum where £200k was mentioned, now whether that is to raise the paper work for the job or whether that is to do the work I have no idea. On top of that there will still be the cost of the winter service to meet.

I would think once 558 stops flying most people's interest in her will stop.As Pam said the education thing did not take off even now she's flying and as for taxying well there is only one Vulcan you can really get close to when she taxi's and that's 655 with 426 on an airport and if 558 stay's at Doncaster the the public access will be limited for taxying i would think.

Engine life was supposed to run in line with flight life. However brown smelly stuff happens so life goes on at a different pace.

The building is a fine design, however going by the past fund raising problems I can see the building remaining an architects dream for ever. And that is one hell of a long time!

How many engines can she realistically take off and fly with?

Because multi engined aircraft have a degree of redundancy built in.

Next mod is front spar. Can't remember the figure suggested so I won't post on here. But NOW is he time to highlight it to the public. NOT when she is stuck on the grounded.

There is some discussion on the Club forum about what engines are left - and more importantly which ones.

I believe from what I read there and elsewhere there are 2 remaining engines and they are the 2 that were removed from 558 for the mag-chip and corrosion found by borascope and still under investigation by RR.

There were only 7 zero timed engines according to the CAA website and I understand the 8th having been used by the RAF and rebagged having clocked up a very small number of hours. I think that these 2 [8th and the rebagged one] were the ones fitted.

However nothing I have seen or heard states that in black and white it's simple complicated deduction on my part.

There was apparently a post by Dan'O on UKar remarking about an interview with MW, I assume at RIAT, that said the 2 remaining engines are the ones' as stated above but I've not seen it.

Oh ye of little faith.

The next mod is well within the ability of TVOC to engineer, it is after all a full CAA BCAR A8-20 M5 approved maintenance company, with a record of achieving what so many "experts" keep insisting is impossible. Its not the engineering that prevents going forward, its of course, as always, the money. There will be a point where the amount needed may not be available, only time will tell. As for engines, that was always an issue, once again because of cost. However, there are two engines which are still possible candidates for use if needed, so all is not yet lost.

Interesting paper from Dr Robert,
If a centre of excellance based on a proven track record, such as TVOC has achieved against all the odds, could be combined with some live flying, classic aircraft operating from a combined maintenance operation, it could just happen. Facilities to view such aircraft could be provided out of the "airside" as they are at Doncaster now for the Vulcan. Suitable facilities to watch them fly or even fast taxi could also be provided, again out of the actual airside area.

I say good luck to the plan and never, underestimate the determination of a dedicated, stubborn group with good supporters. In fact "experts" please, please keep telling us we can't do things, everytime you do that we seem to make things happen and I love proving "experts" wrong.

So then, the wing mod is doable and there are
likely at least two more spare Olympii (maybe...)

I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

I think if she stops flying next year as is suggested many people will stop donating,, simple! But reading DB's post surely its best to highlight this mod now so as to keep her up there^^^^^^. Thats where i want to see her for more years yet please!!!
