B1 vulcan airframe material specifics

Postby Jason_osmer » Sun Jun 07, 2015 1:23 pm

Hello
I am currently studying engineering with the Open University with the aim of serving as an RAF engineering officer. My final project is based around the 1958 Syerston Avro Vulcan VX770 crash.

I am hoping you may be able to help me with some information I have listed below or point me in the right direction.

I am hoping to find information regarding:

-The measurements and geometry of the front wing attachment (pictured below hopefully!!!), particularly the bottom inboard arm including bolt/shackle holes etc

- The wing attachment material (specific grades if possible)

The infomation is needed for fatigue analysis.

(Please note to avoid confusion; there is another Open University student studying the same topic who may have also been in contact)

Thanks for any help you can provide.

mk 1 Vulcans are really hard to get info on, i tried for years to get the Dims for VX770 as i was building a flight sim model so material spec's will probably be almost impossible to track down one thing i know is they did an awful lot of redesin even before the crash as VX777 was VERY diferent in many respects it looked the same but pretty much all of it was new/ evolved from VX770. The engine bays forinstance would not fit the Olympus engines and the Flight control surfaces were all "standard" on VX770 they became the now standard Elevons on VX777.

Thanks, I've managed to determine the material specifics for VX770 but as you mentioned; finding the dimensions is proving tricky.
