Skybolt Vulcans

I saw this for the first time at East Fortune.



and was wondering how many survivors over here have the same mounts.

All the 301 powered Vulcans were built to carry Skybolt although after Skybolt was cancelled some of the later Vulcans were built without the hard points to carry the missile XM 655 being one of these as she was built at the end of the Vulcan production run. Most of the Black Buck Vulcans had the hard points but not all those without took no further part in the operation and the pylon in your picture is a left over from 597's raids on the Argi's missile defence systems during the Falklands conflict. The pylons were fabricated at Waddington in a matter of days using the Skybolt hard points and with assistance from the USAFE were adapted to carry the Shrike anti radar missile.

thanks for that CC, now that you mention it, I have just read the chapter in Vulcan boys book that says all what you just said...........amazing what can be done when it has to.
