Ground run question

Postby Grapefruit » Wed Jul 04, 2012 11:30 pm

Silly question of the week time but when 558 has a ground run it always seems to be ground crew in the cockpit, just wondering why the aircrew dont take part in the ground runs ?

Because she's not getting airbourne...

The engineers do it because its an engineering task, there looking for problems and making adjustments etc.

No such thing as a silly question on here.

I'm sure one of the forum geniuses will be along soon to advise.

Are the ground crew allowed to move her under her own power? Or do the brakes and chocks have to stay firmly on whilst doing engine tests? Memories of the well-known "accidental Lightning flight"......... ;)

The aircrew only ride um the engineers keep um going.
I have started and run the engines on 655 many a time and even moved her a few yards for a brake check. You just follow the FRC's (flight reference cards) the cards that MaPS have even have pictures to guide you around the cockpit which is very handy when you don't do it very often.DT has trained Sooty655 in general handling and moving 655 so he most current down at MaPS.

I only do it with a long lead.
