Well, the 101st Air Refueling Wing of the
Maine Air National Guard resides here in
Dear Old Bangor. They fly KC-135s. I just
don't think it could hurt to Ask!

I know it's a slightly different shade to the original, but, it was free and I think it looks really good.

Couple more shots of the guppy from a different angle:

Gazzy!

You could comb you Hair in that paint!

And I'll think about how I ought to approach
MANG about a leg. Would have to do it in
just the right way...........But would it fit
from a KC-135??????????

And you know Her Majesty's Air Force visits
here on a regular basis.............

If I had hair!! (Before XPL says it!!) :D

If the 135 used 707 nose gear, then it would fit. If it's what was on the Stratocruiser, then it wouldn't. I've been doing some research but I can't find anything that says.

Just let me know..........

Even that one out in OK, if they
could get it to BGR, then your
guys might be able to get it back
your way somehow(?)

Where's Mackrick today?

It COULD happen!

FREE!

This blue we've been given is decent "one coat" stuff. I did that panel with about 2-3 tablespoons of paint. It's a mammoth job, but, I reckon 10L of each colour would be more than enough. Then we'd like to lacquer it all to preserve it, so, a few cans of that as well.

I guess that depends on the weather. I could have done a lot more today but we had so many visitors, I spent a lot of time in the cockpit. What I'd like, is to get the nose section completely finished (all colours) by CWJ at the end of May. Hopefully, get it ALL done by the end of the summer.

But we all know what the Brunty weather is like!

Mackrick, you are not the first person to compare the two ;) :D

24.03.10

Got half way round the front with the blue paint today, it's looking really good!

Ian has made a start on washing the rest of the livery whilst I follow him with the paint.

Here's a before and after, although, it's after and before in this pic:

And that's about it for today. I'm off now til easter sunday. I'll try and get the others to update next week.

Slowly catching up on this thread...........Looking good so far :ymapplause:

I stumbled across this rather sad looking Guppy today during a trip to Bournemouth Airport, it looks like its being scrapped. Would this aircraft have anything that would be of use towards the restoration of the Super Guppy?

I didn't take this picture myself, it was taken in December, but its looking pretty similar now.........

Poor old girl :(

It doesn't share much in common with the SGT (I don't mean Saracenman!!) but some dials from their cockpit would be useful. I'll drop them a line.

Cheers mate

Good work Gaz. How did you get involved in this? Looks like a tidy airbase, a few attractions dotted about the airfield looking at Google Maps!

Gregg (Bubbles) took me to a static run of the Comet and told one of the crew chiefs that I'd like to volunteer at Bruntingthorpe. I was welcomed with open arms. About 6 months later I made enquiries about the plans for the guppy. Turns out there weren't any so I put my name forward........

The rest is history.

Wedgy: I have already been on to our webmaster about that. He must be really busy because he usually updates things straight away. It would seem that B&Q have stopped selling paint and painting tools online. I can send you updated links if you're feeling generous ;) :D
