You know, the actual most recent C-5
"Super" upgrades allow a fully tanked-up
and loaded example to get off the ground
in under 6,000 feet!

Exactly HOW much under 6,000 feet is
(no surprise) Classified.....

Landing requirement is, naturally,
somewhat less.

Take THAT, Antonov!

Current fleet is expected to remain in
service until 2040 or so.

Not bad for a Great, Honking Aircraft!

One last thing, I find it amazing that
this C-5 gets airborne so quickly.....

Well, they are designed to be heavy lifters, so I guess if there is nothing inside, it would rather shorten the take-off length.

(558's take-off performance is much the same for the same reason) :ymdevil:
Sooty

One Olympus 301 has twice the power of a complete F1 starting grid.
XM655 has four of them, all serviceable.

Yeah, Yeah, I know.....

But even so!

Fully laden with fuel and cargo, it will
be off the tarmac in something less than
6,000 ft.

For something that Geenormous to get
up that quickly is amazing.

Would have been even quicker if they'd picked a downhill runway! ;)
