V12 Merlin

How about this for model building 8-}

I saw this actual model at the Model Engineering Exhibition in London - around the bottom of the model when exhibited he had a wooden plinth on which were mounted all the cock ups he had made when constructing ... these showed us the size of the pistons - gudgeon pins - bearings - cranks - all hand made and scratch built. Incredible engineering ... and as you can see it runs :-@

One limitation - you can't scale oil down - so it overheats quickly - he can only run it for very short periods ;)

Of the crowd of us gathered round it one wag said 'My wife would never let me spend that many hours in the workshop!'.... a voice came from the back of the crowd 'If I could build like that I would't want a friggin wife!!' :ymsmug:

Now all he needs to do is build a spitfire to behind it ;)

Fantastic bit of engineering would love to see the mistakes though....

My Dad - who builds grandfather clocks - says - there's always more in the scrap box than in the finished article :))

If you taped it and then slowed the sound down, would it sound like a full size Merlin? I don't think he's got a wife :D

There's the problem Wedgy - it can't run for very long as it overheats - so it would be no good in a model :(
